Norma Anderson - recent

Norma Anderson, age 76, died of complications from diabetes December 28, 2007. She was born March 28, 1931 to David LeRoy Anderson and Florence Smith and attended Jackson Elementary School in Salt Lake City. The family moved to Richland in 1944 where she attended Lewis and Clark Elementary and Columbia High School graduating in 1951.

After high school she worked as a mail clerk for General Electric at the Hanford facility in Richland. The family moved back to Salt Lake City in 1954. Norma was employed by a number of families from 1957-1973 tending children: Wynn (3), Livingston (4), Larsen (3), Naylor (4), Denning (7), Miller (3). Some were for short periods or one day a week, others were daily for several years. Worked a short while for Cummings Candy. Started working for Deseret Industries in 1986 and retired in 1996. She worked as a nursery seven leader for eight LDS wards from 1955-85. A lot of time went into preparing activities and lessons.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully from 1955-71 as Young Women's secretary receiving her seven year leader award and 14 individual awards. During this same time she also served as librarian for the ward Primary, Relief Society, and MIA.

She enjoyed watching basketball, playing board games, and doing word puzzles. She also crocheted and knitted using these skills for many years to make gifts for family and friends. She was an example of persevering when her health should have dictated otherwise.

She suffered a heart attack in 1999 and had several by-passes, in 2003 she had breast cancer, and had diabetes for many years with its attendant complications.

She deserves a good rest. She can now be with the mother she hasn't seen in 56 years, and father for 37.

She is survived by her stepmother, Dorothy Blackham Anderson, sister, Mary Judith (Judy) Donaldson, brother-in-law Ken Donaldson, a nephew Weston Donaldson, and many cousins.

Services were held Thursday, January 3, 2008 at the Winder 9th Ward in Salt Lake City with a viewing earlier. Interment will be at Holladay Memorial Park.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Silverado Aspen Park for the care they gave to Norma for a short time she was there.
