Marian Fallness - 1945

Marian passed away November 11, 2011, at her daughter's home in Westport, WA. Marian, the youngest daughter of Gunvard and Sophie Fallness, was born in Hibbing, MN, on February 13, 1927. Her family moved to Yakima, WA, when she was 8 years old and moved again when she was 17, to Richland. Marian was in the first graduating class of the "new" Columbia High School in 1945. She married Glenn Burnett in 1947, and they raised their family in Richland. They had been married 46 years when he died in 1993.

After Marian and Glenn were married, she worked for General Electric until her second child was born. She devoted her time to her family then and did Mom things like helping with Blue Birds and Boy Scouts, and cheering at Little League games. Marian was proud of her Norwegian heritage and kept family traditions alive by making lefse and baking Scandinavian desserts. Visitors were always met with a smile, coffee and something yummy.

In recent years she lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Westport and although she missed Richland's sun and warm weather, she enjoyed living close to the ocean. She never lost her love of books and was listening to a new best seller when she became ill.

Marian was a member of Richland Lutheran Church and a member of Bible Study Fellowship for many years. She volunteered for the Red Cross and was a blood donor.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Connie ('67) and Steve Wood (Westport), her son and daughter-in-law Glenn and Judy Burnett (Richland), her grandchildren Connie and Damien (Australia), Marcus and Debbie and their son Johnathan (Cheney), and Hope (Kirkland); and her sister-inlaw, Minnie Wilson (Richland).

She was close to her nieces Beth, Rhoda and Sarah Ingstad, Mary Sue Seidel, Wanda Morrison, Tammy Paeschke and Rebecca Rohwer, and her caregivers, Jessica Scott and Kimberlee Hepner.

Graveside services were held at Sunset Memorial Gardens on November 17, 2011. Memorials in Marian's name may be made to A Missionary's Rest, PO Box 3015, Richland, WA 99354.
