After leading a courageous fight against cancer, Jim died at his home in Prosser on March 25, 2013. He was born on February 1, 1957, in Ephrata, WA to Rudolph and Pauline Davis Hachtel. He grew up in Ephrata, Coulee Dam and Richland. In 1975, he graduated as a Bomber from Columbia High. He then attended Western Washington and finished his nursing degree at CBC. He worked in the operating room at Kennewick General Hospital for 26 years and considered many of his co-workers as his second family.

On New Year's Eve, December 31, 1993, he met the love of his life, Connie Dotson. The couple were married in Richland on August 5, 1995, and made their home in Prosser.

Jim was an avid sportsman and enjoying family hunting and fishing trips. He also enjoyed golf and volleyball.

Jim was preceded by his parents, Pauline and Rudolph Hachtel.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Hachtel; his sisters, Karen (Cliff) Morey, and Laura ('76); his brothers, Larry, Robert ('73) (Sara), Milo (Becky). His brothers-in-law, Neal Dotson, and Robert Dotson (Barbara); and numerous nieces and nephews, Joshua, Monica, Skylar, Leanna, Kelli, Stacey, Lisa, and Ryan.

Memorials can be made to the Tri-Cities Cancer Center, 7350 W. Deschutes Ave, Building A, Kennewick, WA 99336.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm Friday, March 29th at the Prosser First Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
