Susan, of Richland died early Friday morning, October 17, 2014, at Hospice at the Chaplaincy in Kennewick at the age of 57. Susan was born on September 21, 1957, in Portland, OR to Roland and Julia Bond and was a life-long resident of Richland.

After her valiant fight with melanoma skin cancer in 2008, Susan's battle resumed in July of 2014, metastasizing to the brain, lungs and bone. Her amazing outlook facing this terminal diagnosis was incredible and undoubtedly inspiring. Never questioning her unwavering faith for a miracle, her passionate love for life including uplifting support and positive encouragement of family, friends, and supporters without question helped carry her throughout her amazing journey. Yet even facing her struggle, she enjoyed being there for others, putting her own needs last without hesitation.

Her radiant red hair, beautiful spirit, kind heart, positive attitude and admirable strength, will be a reminder of the amazing person we all knew. It should come as no surprise that she leaves behind a legacy filled with beautiful memories unforgettably held deep within the hearts and minds of all who knew her. Susan possessed a contagious smile and compassion for all around her. Throughout her life she maintained a considerate and kind demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant courage, determination and faith. Her signature gift was putting other's needs first, her selfless acts of kindness, demonstrated through her genuine concern, encouragement, support, faithfulness and unconditional love will never be forgotten.

Susan graduated from Richland's Columbia High School in 1976. In 1988 she graduated from Columbia Basin College with a degree in IBM PC. She retired as a functional control specialist for Areva after working for 30 years.

Susan enjoyed spending time with friends near and far, family and her grandchildren, attending games, school events, birthday parties and holiday celebrations. She enjoyed playing ball or taking an afternoon stroll with Sadie, Bud and Piper (Susan and Steve's hunting dogs). Susan possessed an admirable, courageous, generous and genuine heart of gold. Always holding life as a precious gift, Susan was an amazing woman. She leaves behind a lifetime of family and friends who will never forget her beautiful, loving free spirit, an extraordinary legacy that she has left behind.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Roland Horace and Julia Mae Bond and her brother, Michael Bond ('74).

She is survived by her husband of 13 years, Steven L. Atkins; children, Mandi M. Beck, Lee A. Green, III, Tamra (Rees) Harrison, and Addi (Bryan) Daisley; grandchildren, Lillyana, Isabella, Elijah, Trysten, Lyla, and Marlow.
