Jim Meigs ~ circa 2014 ~ Jim Meigs ~ recent

Jim passed away on November 18, 2015, at Tri-Cities Chaplaincy House in Kennewick. He was born on April 28, 1940, in Wichita, Kansas, to Henry and Waunett Meigs.

Jim moved with his parents to Richland when he was 4 years old. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1958. The day after graduation he got on a bus for West Yellowstone, Montana. Jim was one of the few students chosen to work the summer at the park. It was there that he discovered Henry's Lake and for many years after returned there to fish. Jim loved being outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing. Traveling in the RV, he could hardly pass up a yard sale, loved to go to antique stores, play cards and be with the family. He was very proud of his Cherokee heritage and enjoyed telling stories of his grandparents and visiting them in Oklahoma when he was a child.

Jim served six years in the Army Reserves. He studied two years at J.M. Perry Institute in Yakima and was certified in 1964 as an Instrument Technician. His early career was spent working in and around the Seattle area, then Hanford in the '70s. In 1980, he accepted employment at Pacific Power and Light and moved his family to Casper, Wyoming. Jim loved everything about Casper, the hunting, fishing and even the weather. In 1991, he retired from there and moved back to Richland and went to work for Westinghouse. The last 20 years he worked as a planner for several contractors at Hanford.

Jim is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sandra Christensen Meigs ('61); 4 children: Debra Mettille (Randy), Jeri Lynn Paull (Mike), Chris Meigs, and Jim Meigs ('98); grandchildren: Deena, Paul, Jonathon, and Tony; two great grandchildren, Jacob and Carlie; brother, Ken ('59) Meigs (Anna), mother-in-law, Maxine Christensen, brother-in-law, Jerry Christensen (Kay), sisters-in-law, Janice Foster and Brenda Young, several nephews and nieces.

Jim was a true "Gentleman" cherished by his wife and children. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

In lieu of flowers donations to Hospice House at The Chaplaincy, 1480 Fowler Street, Richland, WA 99352 would be greatly appreciated.

Graveside services were held November 23, 2015, at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Kennewick.
