DENNIS RICE LAYBOURN ~ Class of 1961
March 15, 1943 - August 24, 2015

~ Dennis Laybourn - 1961 - Sr. Portrait

Dennis was born on March 15, 1943, in Denver, Colorado, to Harland Ayres and Ruth Marie Laybourn. He was their second son. They moved when he was two to Richland so Hal could work at Hanford.

He grew up terrorizing the south end of Richland and some say never stopped until his death at Kadlec Hospital of natural causes on August 24, 2015.

After graduating from Columbia High School in 1961, he married his junior high sweetheart and love of his life for over 60 years, Janice McGahey, joined the Navy and began his family, not necessarily in that order. Together they have three great children, all born in Richland and all graduated from Pasco High. He worked for Burlington Northern railroad supporting his family.

Some men are Catholics or Baptists; our Dad was a Cadillac man. He loved cruising in that car with the top down wearing a hat, the blues, triumph motorcycles and living life large right up to the very end.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 60 years, Janice McGahey Laybourn ('61); his 3 children: Darren Laybourn, Tamara Laybourn Carswell, and Karina Laybourn Thorne; his eight grandchildren: Josh, Jennifer, Spencer, Caitlin, Sara, Cramer, Brooklyn, and Payton; his future great grandchildren; his siblings: Michael Laybourn ('56), Shanon Laybourn Smith ('65), Hugh Laybourn ('68) and Daniel Laybourn ('70); and the friends that he loved;

A graveside service was held at Sunset Gardens Cemetery on August 28, 2015, outdoors, where he loved being the most. A celebration of Dennis’ life was held in his back yard following the graveside service.
