DAVID JOEL "JOE" WILSON ~ Class of 1949
March 28, 1932 - February 2, 2016

David Joel Wilson was born on March 28, 1932, in Ripley, Tennessee, to Samuel and Eugenia Wilson. He passed away after complications from a fall and kidney failure on February 2, 2016.

The Wilsons moved to Richland in 1943. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1949.

Joe married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie George, on June 10, 1952.

Joe served in the US Navy for two years. After his service, he attended the University of Washington where he earned his BA degree in Marketing and soon after began working for Sears Robuck and Co, in Oakland, CA. He and Marjorie had three children.

Developing his career with Sears, the family moved many times as promotions came. His last promotion settled him in the Sacramento, CA area where he managed the Sears Florin store until his retirement in 1991.

He was a founding member and recognized with the "Horizon Award" from the South Sacramento Rotary Club. For years he regularly participated in and supported community events for those in need. He enjoyed leisure time with his family, golfing with his buddies, fishing with his children and grandchildren, landscaping his property and growing a bountiful vegetable garden which he shared with others.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie ('51); three children: Jeanene, David, and Melinda; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

A celebration life took place at his home in Fair Oaks, CA on May 15, 2016.
