Tim Jochen - 1971 - Sophomore ~ Tim Jochen - 1973 - Sr. Portrait ~ Tim Jochen ~ recent

Tim passed away April 2, 2016. He was born in Richland on April, 17, 1955, to Buzz and Beverlee Smith Jochen. He was the oldest of three boys.

He was afflicted with asthma in his early childhood years but his love and dedication for football and track motivated him to push himself to overcome his breathing limitations. He played football and ran track through jr. high & high school. He ran the 880 yd. run and the mile relay in high school. By his senior year, Rory Stewart and Tim were running near the 2 min. mark for the 880 and near the 50 sec. mark for their quarter mile leg of the relay. Their relay-team was fast and a joy to watch. Tim gave 110% to run, and overcame his limitations.

Tim graduated from Richland's Columbia High School in 1973 and attended WSU. He competed in the decathlon there and graduated with a degree in Physical Education and Coaching. He student taught at Richland and coached at Hanford. He met Karen McCullogh and married her on July 8, 1978. They were married for 37 years. Karen faithfully served Tim by teaching and cared for him throughout his afflictions.

After Tim married, he worked on a survey crew until he was selected to attend the reactor operator certification program at the Hanford N-Reactor and was certified as a RO in 1985. He really took pride running the control room and excelled there until N-Reactor closed down. He went on to work at 2 Commercial nuclear reactors, and returned to Hanford and served out his working days as a technical procedure writer for multiple contractors.

Tim had a good sense of humor, was very good at research and paid attention to detail. He and Karen loved their dogs. Tim was skillful with computers and started his own troubleshooting business.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverlee Smith Jochen ('52).

We will miss him very much. He is survived by his wife Karen; his father John Clark "Buzz" Jochen ('51); his step mother Mary Henderson Jochen ('55); and his brothers Greg ('76)(Ruth), and Rod ('80)(Irene).

There was a Memorial Service April 8, 2016, at Keith & Keith Funeral Home in Yakima.

To share a memory of Tim his Guest Book will be opened till 5/5/17
