Marty was a cancer surivor, however, this was not the cause of his death. He was killed when his vehicle was struck by a drunk driver.

Per his brother, Mike Clements, Marty had been married a couple of times, but he did not have any children from these marriages.

At the time of his death, he was employed as an Information Technologist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

Marty was cremated, and his ashes were scattered by his brother, Mike, in an area on Douglas Island that Marty thought was a beautiful place.
