Marlyn Dale Toland - 1961

YAKIMA - Dale's earthly journey ended on March 29, 2004 as the result of brain cancer. He has now entered the presence of his loving God, and has begun his eternal life in heaven.

Dale was born on October 3, 1942 in Wapato, WA, to Merlyn Dallas and Edna LaVerna Toland. He attended school in Wapato, Granger, Sunnyside, and graduated from Columbia High School of Richland, WA in 1961. He earned an undergraduate degree in education from Seattle Pacific University, and a master's degree from Eastern Washington University.

Dale married Kathleen Ellon Caudill, his life mate, on June 12, 1965. God blessed him with two sons, Mark and Brian, the prides of his life. Dale considered his family to be his greatest blessing. Dale was involved with Kathy at Westside Baptist Church for many years beginning with their marriage in 1965.

Dale began his career in 1965. His first assignment was teaching in the East Valley School District. After two years he transferred to the Yakima School district where he taught for several year before becoming a principal. He retired from education in 1992.

Since his retirement, Dale has been privileged to support his wife, Kathy, in her work, and to work part time at many different jobs. Among the most enjoyable was his work with the Yakima County Juvenile Court. He has also enjoyed several cruises over the past 10 years with Kathy.

Dale is survived by Kathleen, his wife of 38 years, and two sons, Mark Douglas and wife, Sally Jo of Everett and Brian Kent of Seattle. His brother and sister-in-law, Linus ('67) and Merridee Toland living in Keizer, OR, and his sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and Gary Panell, living in Zillah, WA, also survive him. His parents and a brother, Dallas Toland ('62RIP), preceded him in death. A Celebration Service for Dale will be held at Westside Baptist Church, 6901 Summitview Avenue, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 2, 2004. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 Friday, at West Hills Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverside Christian School or the YVCC Foundation.
