Betty died suddenly of cardiovascular complications. She was born near Ardmore, OK, to Bertha and Oz McKenzie.
Poor farming conditions led them to come to Washington in 1936. They eventually settled in Richland,
before Hanford.
She met Robert Fletcher ('40) in high school where they occasionally went on dates. They were married in
1943 while Robert was in the Army at a training school in New York City. She returned to Pasco to work
at Big Pasco until Steve was born in 1945. After Robert came home from the Army, they made their home in
Richland where Robert taught school.
Barbara, Dale and Julia added to the family in later years.
Betty was a den mother and Scout leader for all her children.
She was a caring person who had a special touch for personal relationships. She was an avid reader of books
of all kinds, one of the library's best customers.
She enjoyed many family camping trips and Elderhostels to different parts of the country. Extended trips
to England, France, Mexico and Hawaii also were special for her.
She liked ballroom and square dancing. Crossword and jumble puzzles were another source of pleasure to
her which she and Robert liked to work together.
She coped with depression for the last 10 years.
Betty is survived by her husband, Robert; daughters, Barbara (husband, Sal) Argento, Julia (husband, Kelly),
Cameron and sons, Steve (wife, Patty) and Dale. She had four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She will be very dearly missed by all her family.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 22, 2006, 11am, at West Highlands Methodist Church,
17 S. Union. Kennewick. Pastor Ed Branham will be officiating.
