Jim passed away on April 4, 2007 at Richland Rehabilitation Center in Richland. He was born on October 17, 1932 in Mansfield, TX. During his earlier years he left Texas when he was 9, via Arkansas and Nebraska, the family arrived in Richland on November 5, 1943. They lived in the construction town of Hanford until they moved into their "B" house on Marshall.
Jim went to school in Richland for most of his elementary, junior high years, and was a 1951 Richland Bomber. He joined the Army on August 11, 1952 and was honorably discharged on July 27, 1955. James retired as a Mechanical Engineer. He was a long time member of the Masonic Lodge. Jim and loved the Tri-Cities area and returned here after a living in California for many years. He and his wife Dorothy traveled the world extensively and enjoyed their time together tremendously.
Jim was a regular at some the wonderful eateries in this area such as the Sage Port Grille and The Coffee Nook. Everyone who worked there knew him by name and took loving care of him after he suffered the loss of his wife. They always knew exactly how he enjoyed his iced tea.
Jim lost his wife on December 31st, 2006 after a short battle with breast cancer. He just could not recover from the shock and was not able to live without her. He loved her dearly.
He is survived by daughter and family: Dana Elizabeth Burns, and son-in-law - Larry Alan Burns, grandchildren - Kylee Alyssa Burns and Nicholas Alan Burns all of Deer Park, WA. Sister and family: Nansi Grow Bainard ('55) & husband Dale Bainard of Richland, WA Their daughters Kim Thackray of Corvallis Oregon and Susan Bainard of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. Niece and family: Nanette Duncan of Richland, WA her sons Terry Duncan, John Duncan both of Richland and daughter Elizabeth Ann Duncan of Seattle, WA. Sister-in-law: Angela Mostof of Richland, her children Mimi Mostof of Richland, son Phil Mostof of California. Brother-in-law: Bob Lexa of Ohio, his sons and their families.
Jim is preceded in death by his loving wife of 36 years Dorothy Ann Grow. Mother Fannie Lou Grow and father Clarence Grow. His sisters Marjorie Hassler-Jones, Elizabeth Schmidt, and Ann Grow who passed away when she was a baby.
