MYRON G. "CURLY" KRISHER ~ Class of 1951
June 14, 1933 - March 9, 2007
Surrounded by his caregiving family, Curly Krisher passed away at the age of 73 at his home in Benton City, WA on March 9, 2007. Curly was born in Longford, KS on June 14, 1933 and was the first of two children born to Gladwyn and Naomi Krisher.
Curly's father located the family in the Tri-Cities for a job with duPont. Curly graduated from Col-Hi in 1951. He achieved Eagle Scout status prior to his graduation. He then entered the Navy where he served during the Korean War. Upon his discharge, he returned to Tri-Cities and began a career in construction. During his career as a construction supervisor, Curly worked or lived in various states including Alaska, Arizona, Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Montana, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming.
On December 20, 1958, Curly married Anita Mercier and together they had 3 children; Keith, Kay and Kraig. Curly and his team roping partner Bob Weaver owned the Bridge Tavern in West Richland. In 1978, he married Bobbi Brown and with this marriage came daughter Brandi. On August 14, 1993, Curly and Billie Shiflett were married and along with Billie, into his family, came 3 stepchildren, Kathleen, Jaki and Julie.
Curly was an active man who had a penchant for being able to fix, find or repair anything. He maintained his passion for horses and rodeo throughout his life. He was an active team roper even in retirement, traveling with his wife Billie to Arizona during the winters to enjoy the sun and pursue this pastime. He participated in NorthWest Old Timers and U.S.T.R.C. events and qualified for the Senior PRCA finals in Reno, NV in 1996. He also enjoyed hunting including guiding elk hunting trips into Idaho for friends and family. In addition, Curly was a Little League coach, a High School Rodeo coach and a mentor for all the children and grandchildren that passed through his life.
Curly is survived by his wife, Billie; his children: son Keith (Debbie) Krisher of Benton City; daughter Kay (Pat) Lawson of Richland; son Craig (Debbi) of Richland; and daughter Brandi (Mark) Nolet of Houston, TX; his stepchildren: daughter Kathleen (Mike) Reid of Benton City; daughter Jaki Upton of Benton City; and daughter Julie Shiflett of Spokane; his grandchildren: Cody, Cassie, Amber, Tyler, Kevin and Amanda; his stepgrandchildren: Cody, Jami, Cori and Kelsi and his great-grandchildren: Trinit and Branton.
Curly was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Donna Lane ('51).
Curly will be missed by all who knew him.
