John Skinner - recent

Our beloved John M. Skinner passed from this life Thursday, October 11, 2007 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 25, 1949 in Waynesboro, GA, the third child of Eddie Lee Skinner.

John was devotedly committed to Debra Wright for 12 years, and the two resided in Richland, WA. John and Debra loved family and friends and were actively involved in their community.

John graduated from Columbia High School, Richland, WA in 1969. Whatever John endeavored he put his heart and soul into it. He was a proud union member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) where in July 1970 he entered a four-year electrical apprenticeship which culminated in a 37-year journey wireman career. He worked tirelessly for the benefit of the membership of IBEW Local 112.

John was a national delegate for the Democratic Party for the 2000 Convention in Los Angeles, CA. He was a civil rights activist and a member and past president of the local chapter of the NAACP. He was the first elected president of the African American Community, Cultural and Educational Society (AACCES). He was well known as a great conversationalist, and very pellucid. He was a charitable and giving person.

John will forever remain in the hearts of Debra Wright, his mother Eddie Lee Skinner, daughters Nina Duckworth and Carmen Cady; stepchildren Nichele and Jerome Wright, Pamela Kinsey, and Angie Haynes; siblings Jerome, Ida, Belinda ('72), Kenneth ('74), Byron ('79) and Brian Skinner; grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
