Mabel Alder Miller - recent

"Mae" was born February 2, 1935, the first of 3 children, in Cardova, Greenbriar County, West Virginia to Sammie M. and Eva Nevada (Rose) Alder. She traveled with her family from West Virginia to Yakima in the late '40s, and later to Richland as part of the Hanford boom, where she spent the majority of her life. Mae graduated from Columbia High in 1954 and married Don Stoner ('53) that same year. They have one daughter, Teena. They moved to Woodinville, WA, then later to Denver, CO. Soon after the death of her father she returned to Richland to be closer to family. When her mother passed away Mae again moved to Colorado, where she met her best friend and soul mate, Jim Norris. She spent many happy years with Jim and his family, following him to Georgia, and caring for him during his illness. Mae once again moved back to Richland as she now had a granddaughter, Jordyn, and grandson, James "Bud." She enjoyed caring for them after school during their early years and took them on bus rides into town for "shopping adventures."

Mae was an avid animal lover and had many pets throughout the years. She enjoyed reading, camping, hunting, cooking, crafts, flower gardening, family and friends, watching Broncos football and Mariners baseball on television, and decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas.

Mae is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, a niece, and her beloved Jimbo. She is survived by daughter Teena (Monty) Giulio, brothers Sam (Delores) Alder ('58) and Don (Patricia) Alder ('60), grandchildren Jordyn and Bud, and several nieces and nephews, and 'faux' family members.

Mae died peacefully in her sleep July 17th, 2008, at Life Care Center of Richland after struggling with numerous long-term health issues. Mae's family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to her doctors and the staffs of Kadlec Medical Center, Life Care Center of Richland and Richland Gardens Assisted Living for the devoted care and attention they provided to her.

There will be a Gathering for friends and family Saturday, July 26, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Teena's home at 5152 W. Killdeer Court in West Richland.
