RICHARD ANTHONY "MACK" McDONNELL ~ Class of 1944
January 1, 1927 - November 4, 2009
Beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, Richard A. "Mack" McDonnell died November 4, 2009.
Mack was born January 1, 1927 to parents Edward and Katharine McDermott McDonnell. The family moved to Richland in 1943. On graduation from Columbia High in 1944, Mack served in the Navy as a Medical Corpsman. When discharged, he later attended college at Farragut, ID. He returned to Richland where he and Jerry were married in 1955. Eventually employed by General Electric, Mack worked in Richland, San Jose CA, and Wilmington, N.C. He retired in 1988 and moved back to Richland.
Mack loved to travel. He and his wife traveled to Australia, Antarctica, South America, Europe, China, Japan, and Alaska. He was also a consummate volunteer. He assisted the American Red Cross and the Richland Police VIP Program. He was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus and a former Grand Knight, and had a special place in his heart for Tri-Cities Prep High School. His many quiet acts of help and care for friends and strangers cannot be counted.
Mack was preceded in death by his parents, sister Katharine Little, and niece, Martha Sisk-Moro.
He is survived by his wife Jerry, daughter Kathy, brother Michael McDonnell, sister Mary E. Sisk, seventeen nephews and nieces, twenty-eight grand nieces and nephews, six great-grand nieces and nephews and friends too numerous to list.
Viewing was at Einan's Funeral Home on Sunday, November 8, 5-7 PM with rosary following. Funeral Mass: Christ the King Church, 10AM November 9. Lunch reception at the Richland Knights of Columbus Hall following internment.
