CAROL ANN HARRIS TOLMIE ~ Class of 1957 wb
March 9, 1938 - September 1, 2009
Carol Ann Harris Tolmie, age 71, passed away September 1, 2009, at her home in Richland after being diagnosed with cancer.
Carol's charming smile, positive personality and sparkling blue eyes are what most people will remember. Those closest to her will also remember her love for people, music and anything to do with airplanes.
A daughter of Floyd and Enid Harris, Carol was born March 9, 1938, in Fort Worth, TX. As early as six years old, Carol played piano for her father's congregation, even though she had to sit on top of catalogs to reach the piano keys. She also loved singing hymns on the radio with her father.
She moved to Richland from Texas when she was a teenager and attended Columbia High School. This is where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Larry G. Baker, of West Richland. Together they raised two daughters.
She worked for the University of Washington Graduate Center in North Richland before transferring to Seattle where she worked as a Program Manager III for the University of Washington Harborview Medical Center. After retiring from the university, she fulfilled her lifelong dream and became a flight attendant for American Eagle at age 51.
Her passion for aviation led her to take flying and skydiving lessons and her involvement in Civil Air Patrol in Bellevue, WA.
When not in the air, Carol loved being in the sunshine, especially Hawaii. Sailing and roller skating were always favorite things to do.
Interior design and fashion were her creative outlets.
She is survived by her two children, Dianna Baker Lettau of North Bend, WA. and Brenda Baker Long of Redmond, WA., four grandchildren, brother Raymond Harris, and several nieces and nephews.
