DEIRDRE LAMBERT ~ Class of 1968
January 30, 1950 - January 31, 2009
Our beloved sister Deirdre Lambert passed peacefully away on January 31, 2009, at the Yakima Valley Memorial hospital. She was born in Richland on January 30, 1950, to Maurice and Phyllis Lambert - the third of five children.
Deirdre graduated from Columbia High School in Richland in 1968 and attended two years of college at Brigham Young University. About this time, Deirdre became afflicted with schizophrenia, a disabling mental illness. She lived with and was lovingly cared for by her parents in Richland until 1990, and then she moved to a group home in Sunnyside, WA. Deirdre later moved to Yakima, where she spent her last six years at Gleed Orchard Manor, an assisted living home. She was happy at Gleed Orchard and enjoyed her friends and the kind staff there.
Before her illness, Deirdre was admired, loved and enjoyed by all. She had an affinity for children and loved animals and the outdoors. She was a talented artist, enjoyed writing poetry, had a passion for snow skiing, as well as an infectious sense of humor and love of life. In her later years, Deirdre was remembered as a sweet lady with a ready smile and a love of music... and is greatly missed by her friends.
Deirdre is survived by her brothers Kerrick Lambert ('62) of Tacoma, WA, and Valkair Lambert ('66) of the Tri-Cities, and sisters Nyla Lambert Bergam ('73) of Austin, TX and Brinna Lambert Andrus ('78), also of the Tri-Cities.
We love you Deirdre and are grateful that you are free from your illness at last. We look forward to the day when we will be able to embrace you once more and thank you for the lessons you taught us.
