RANDY LEE WATT ~ Class of 1968
August 15, 1950 - December 5, 2009



Randy Watt departed this life on December 5, 2009. He entered this world on August 15, 1950 in Hillsboro, OR and was the middle child of five.

West Richland was his playground growing up. Among his activities; he and his friends devised imaginative ways of getting down Flat Top, pilfered goods from gardens, tormented his only sister and her friends, and really enjoyed playing Little League Baseball. He was "all boy".

He enlisted in the Army in 1967, serving in both Korea and Viet Nam. That experience changed him and he later adopted the "Keep it Simple" way of life. Fishing became a favorite past-time. He met Susan King in 1979, began working for Phillips 66 as a Chemical Operator in 1980, got married in August that same year, and had their first son, Nicholas, 9 months, 9 days later. Their second son, Matthew, was born 22 months after Nick.

Randy continued to work as a Chemical Operator and eventually moved the family to Baytown, TX in 1990 to work for Chevron Chemical. The family stayed there for 12 years, with Randy learning how to smoke brisket and other tasty foods. He developed a love of turning wood on a lathe and made many beautiful items, which he proudly gave to family and friends.

Randy's health deteriorated to the point where he was no longer able to work, then moved back to Washington in 2002. Randy & Sue went to "Happy Camp" on the Oregon coast in July and found out shortly after that Randy had terminal cancer. He entered Hospice Care and spent the remainder of his life with his family, whom he loved more that anything. Randy was a fighter clear to the end, never letting his Crohn's Disease or Cancer get him down. He developed integrity and was bluntly honest, expecting the same in return.

We love and will miss him, looking forward to seeing him again.

Randy was proceeded in death by his father; Melvin Watt, Sr., mother; Helen Heckathorn, brother; Melvin Watt, Jr. ('56), and sister; Patty Hill .

He leaves behind; his wife of 29 years, Susan Watt, two sons; Nicholas & Matthew, brothers; Brian & Michael, numerous nieces & nephews, and his devoted cat; Jake. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CaringBridge.org, The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation, or T.C. Hospice at The Chaplaincy.

A Celebration of Life Recpetion for Randy Watt will take place on Sunday, December 13, 2009 from 2-4 p.m. at the Sandberg Event Center, 331 S. 41st Ave. (Across from the liquor store), off Van Geisen in West Richland. Please come and share your stories and memories.
