MARY LENA WEIDLE RASMUSSEN ~ Class of 1935

Richland Pioneer, Mary Lena Weidle Rasmussen, 93, of Richland died September 23, 2010, at Hospice House.
She was born November 1, 1916, at Richland. Her parents were John Philip Weidle and Clara Bremmer Weidle, pioneer settlers. Mary grew up on a farm northwest of town, attended schools in Richland, and graduated from Richland High School in 1935. She attended Northwestern Business College in Spokane. Mary worked as a bookkeeper for more than 40 years, the last half at Spencer Kinney Insurance and Real Estate.
Mary married Roy E. Rasmussen September 28, 1941, at First Lutheran Church of Pasco. She was a longtime member of Richland Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her many friends there, served as a Deacon, arranged flowers for receptions, was active in the sewing group, and volunteering for fund raisers. Mary made and decorated birthday, wedding and anniversary cakes for family and friends.
Survivors include daughter, JoAnn Jensen; son, John Rasmussen; grandsons, Michael Emminger, Eric and Craig Rasmussen; sisters, Martha Weidle Nelson ('40) and Edith Weidle Hansen ('42); nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Arva Weidle Burgen ('36).
A memorial service for Mary will be held at Richland Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 2nd, at 2pm. Viewing at Einan's Funeral Home in Richland, Friday, October 1st, 5pm to 8pm.
