CAROL SUE KEENAN ~ Class of 1951

Carol Sue Keenan, 76, of Hopewell, VA passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010 in the Colonial Heights Health Care Center after a long fight against cancer. Carol graduated from Columbia High School in 1951 after which she entered employment with the Atomic Energy Commission. She later worked for Titmus Optical Co. in Petersburg. She retired from the Defense Department at Ft. Lee, VA in 1998 but continued on with her volunteer work at the Lee Playhouse as the house manager, a job she held for many years.
Carol’s interests were family first then gardening, animals, baking and traveling with a special interest in the Lee Playhouse.
She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert E. Keenan, Sr., her mother, Sally Sue Broyhill Keenan Petersen and step-father, Robert E. Petersen, Sr..
She is survived by two sisters, Shirley P. Stait and Margaret P. Mumford (George) of Newport News, VA, two brothers, Robert E. Petersen, Jr. (Barbara) of Fairfax, VA and Robert Peterson (Marty) of Petersburg, VA, a special niece, Janie K. Kidd (Ken) of Parker Co. and a host of nieces and nephews as well as many wonderful friends and neighbors.
The family received friends on July 17, 2010 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Hopewell, VA with a funeral service officiated by Rev. Michael Browder. Interment was private.
