RAYMOND DUANE "BUD" WHITING ~ Class of 1950
August 19, 1931 - March 3, 2011
Raymond Duane "Bud" Whiting was born August 19, 1931 in Spokane WA to Lloyd A. and Lillian O. Stene Whiting. Ray attended Lewis and Clark High School before moving with his family to Richland, WA where he graduated from Columbia High School 1950.
He attended Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa before entering the army and serving in the Korean War where he was part of the 7th Armored Division Special Training Center at Camp Roberts, CA. Upon his honorable discharge Ray attended the University of Washington and graduated in the spring of 1957. He was recruited by the Boeing Company and worked in its finance department.
Ray married Virginia A. Rasmussen in 1957 and together they built their home and raised their two sons, (Miles) Scott and Bryan Lloyd until Virginia's untimely death in 1972.
Ray retired from Boeing in 1990 and promptly met D. Joanne Dahl and they formed a loving partnership to share their lives. Together they traveled throughout the United States, Canada and spent many happy hours cruising to foreign ports and traveling extensively in Europe. Ray loved to fish and caught many steelhead and salmon on the Cowlitz and Columbia Rivers. He was a member of the Boeing Company Management Association for 30 years, The Auburn 1808 Elks, and a past member of Tacoma Mountaineers Club and Auburn Eagles Club.
Ray is survived by his two sons, Scott (& wife Lori) and Bryan (& wife Stephanie), his partner Joanne Dahl and his six beloved grandchildren, his brother Gary K. Whiting ('55), sister Kathleen Whiting Madsen ('65), and nine nieces and nephews.
Ray was predeceased in death by his parents Lloyd A. Whiting and Lillian O Whiting, sister Dolores M. Hyde, and his wife, Virginia A Rasmussen.
Ray died March 3 after many months of battling pancreatic cancer.
Private funeral services have been arranged with internment at the Auburn Mountain View Cemetery.
