ARTHUR THEODORE "ART" NELSON ~ Class of 1964

Art passed away peacefully on Monday, August 1, 2011 at Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, WA. Born on June 7, 1946 in Portland, OR to Melvin and Pherne Westcott Nelson; he was sixty-five years old.
A Camas-Washougal resident since 1979, Art graduated from Columbia High School in Richland in 1964 and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He worked in the metal trades and Steamfitters Local 290 as a Controls Fitter for 34 years until his retirement two years ago. A lifelong car enthusiast, Art campaigned many classes of drag racing cars culminating in a Top Alcohol Funny Car. He was characterized for being very generous with his time to fellow car enthusiasts and coworkers.
Art is survived by his loving wife Sandy at home; son Marcus Nelson of Brooklyn, NY; and brother David ('68) (Carrie) Nelson of West Richland.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Leslee Nelson Weisser ('61).
There will be no public services. In lieu of flowers, donations in Art's memory may be made to Peace Health Southwest Washington Medical Center’s Cardiac Care Unit. Brown’s Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
