SADIE NADINE BRAKKE KUNKLER ~ Class of 1949
November 24, 1930 - February 12, 2012
Sadie Brakke Kunkler, a long time Richland resident, passed away on February 12, 2012, at the age of 8l. Sadie was born in Forest City, Iowa on November 24, 1930, and was an only child.
In the cold month of January 1948 she came to Kennewick with her parents, who were seeking work at the Hanford site. When her father gained employment they moved to Richland where she has resided since.
She graduated from Columbia High School in 1949.
Sadie retired from the Hanford site as a Laboratory Technician in January, 1994 with 44 years of service. She began her career with General Electric and with the many Company changes ended with Fluor Daniel.
While Sadie tagged along with her beloved John on his hunting and fishing trips, her passions were reading and vegetable gardening until her sight was so compromised with Macular Degeneration she had to give them up.
Sadie was preceded in death by her husband, John, who passed in August of 1998. She is survived by her daughter Deborah Schnabel and son-in-law Bruce, her son Guy and daughter-in-law Sylvia, grandchildren, Anthony, Katie, Kevin, Kyle, Samantha, Dakota and 2 great-granddaughters, Audrey and Taryn.
Services were at Einan's Funeral Home on Thursday, February 16. Viewing was on February 15.
Flowers are welcome, and memorials may go to: Edith Bishel Center for the Blind, Kennewick, the Tri-City Chaplaincy Hospice or the Benton Franklin Humane Society.
