LINDA JEAN WOKAL ~ Class of 1968
October 11, 1950 - December 1, 2012
Linda was born October 11, 1950 in Fargo, ND to Ben J. Wokal and Jean J Benson-Wokal on October 11, 1950 and passed away December 1, 2012 in Seattle following an illness.
The family moved to Richland when Linda was about two years old and her dad took a job at Hanford. After graduating from Columbia High school in 1968, she went to Washington, D.C. and worked as an assistant for the U.S. government in the fiscal department for several years before coming to the Seattle area. She began her career at the City of Seattle in 1982 as an Administrative Specialist in the City Budget Office. Over the course of her 30-year career, Linda worked for 12 Budget Directors and five Mayoral administrations. In 2004, Linda was promoted to the position of Administrative Staff Analyst and continued in that role until her retirement in April of this year. One of her many accomplishments is the system she developed to produce the City's annual Budget and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) books.
Linda was a coach for the Special Olympics for many years, and believed in quality of life for every individual. She exemplified this belief as she provided her own special needs children the opportunity to participate in many varied activities including work and sports. The happiness of her children was a focal point of her life and they brought her much joy. She also had a passion for genealogy and loved the puzzle of finding people and their history and connecting it to her family tree.
She is pre-deceased by her parents.
She leaves behind her two children, Lisa and Ryan, her brother Richard Wokal ('70) and her sister Janet Wokal Wildenborg ('83) (William) and many wonderful friends.
She will be remembered as a devoted mom to her children, Lisa and Ryan, a loyal friend, a dedicated public servant, and she will be sorely missed by those who had the privilege of getting to know how kind and soft-hearted she truly was.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Virginia Mason 7th floor CCU, especially Anna, Hilary, Janie, Vilma, Liz, Dr. Shenoy, Dr. Neivens, & Becky Walsh, for their incredible care, support and kindness during her difficult illness.
At her request there will be no funeral.
