Jeff Hammack died early Thursday morning, September 13, 2012, surrounded by his family at home.

Jeff was born in Richland on July 8, 1953, the oldest of four children of Sanford and Betty June Hammack. Jeff was a lifetime resident of the Tri-Cities, where he worked and played.

Jeff worked 30-plus years for Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, where his primary responsibility was as a Radiation Protection Technologist. Jeff LOVED his sports, both watching and playing. He loved to watch ESPN and was a longtime fan of the Mariners Baseball team, Seahawks Football team, and the former Sonics Basketball team. He was especially passionate about basketball, having been on a company team league for over 20 years, and was on both a team of the Kennewick City league and his company softball team. He had an avid love of being in the outdoors, including skiing in the winter and camping and hiking in the summer. Jeff was also a member of the Tri-City Dance Club. Recently, Jeff and Betty especially enjoyed camping in their brand new trailer.

Jeff graduated from Columbia High School in 1972 and Columbia Basin College in 1974. He joined and proudly served in the Army at Ft. Detrick, MD, for four years, and was a graduate of Central Washington University in 1979.

Jeff is survived by his wife Betty Ann of 5 years; children Jennifer, Aaron, Sarah (Cody), and Erik; siblings Laurie ('75) (Ken Dunkelberg), Joel, Ian, Toby, and Zack; Sandy ('73), Ashley (Rob), Aiden and Evalyn and Brianne; and Doug (Anita) of Seattle, Benjamin. He also has four grandchildren: Hannah, Jaiden, Layla and Codie Rose.

Jeff was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Sandy and Betty June (BJ); and his beloved Auntie Sally.

Graveside services were held at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Monday, September 17. An Open House Celebration of Life followed at the Richland Community Center.
