FREDERICK ALBERT "FRED" MELLING ~ Class of 1957

Fred A. Melling, 74, of Richland passed away on November 18, 2013, at Kadlec Regional Medical Center. Fred was born September 27, 1939, in Minneapolis, MN, to Trygve and Adeline Melling. The family moved to Richland in 1943, where Trygve was employed at Hanford.
Fred graduated from Columbia High School in 1957 and married Brenda Sue Neeley ('58) in 1958. They had three children, Rick ('77), Victor ('79), and Laura ('81). Fred worked for the City of Richland as Director of Public Works until his retirement in 1987.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved fishing on the Washington coast for salmon, and won two salmon derby's fishing for Kings.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife Brenda in 1998, his parents, and his brother Andrew ('57) in 1999.
He is survived by his sons Rick (Vicki), Victor (Lisa), daughter Laura (Brett), grandchildren Michael, Eric, Amber ('97) (Nick), Jacob, and Joshua, and one great-grandchild, Brianna. He is also survived by his sister Myrna Melling Steele ('65).

Graveside service is at 2 pm on Saturday, November 23, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, w/reception following at 2:30 at Memories at Sunset Event Center.
