James Anthony Trujillo, passed away peacefully at age 63 on October 13, 2013, at Riverview Manor in Selah, WA.
Jim was born July 9, 1950, in Pueblo, CO, and grew up in Richland graduating from Columbia H.S. in 1968. That same year he married his high school sweetheart, Marci Rew ('68).
Marci helped Jim attend and graduate from BYU and they had three children before they divorced after 6 years. Jim completed the U.S. Marine Corps, Platoon Leaders Candidate Program and was honorably discharged in 1974. He graduated from the University of Washington Law School in June of 1976 and became a deputy prosecutor for King County. Jim prosecuted hundreds of major felonies including numerous murder trials until 1983 when he left to start a private practice law firm in Bellevue. That firm grew to become Trujillo, Peick, Lingenbrink, & Maglady, where Jim was the senior partner for 16 years. Jim also served as a Judge Pro Tem in the King County District and Superior Courts and was a State Bar examiner, drafting and grading one of the questions on the state bar exam. Jim served as President of the Washington State Hispanic Bar Assoc., Regional President of the National Hispanic Bar Assoc., was on the Board of Governors for the State Trial Lawyers Assoc., was a longtime volunteer attorney for the Eastside Legal Assistance Program, and also served as a tutor for the WSBA Law Clerk Program. Jim enjoyed a legal career that lasted nearly 30 years until 2007, when Jim was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's at just 57 years of age. He was initially cared for in Yakima for several years by his son David and David's wife Theresa and their four children, until Jim's condition got to the point that he required 24 hour care in October, 2011. Jim had enjoyed many great hunting and fishing adventures with his sons, and was an avid skier and Husky fan.
Jim is survived by his daughter Gina (Lars), son Roman (Sheryl), and oldest son David (Theresa), nine grand-daughters: Anita, Melinda, Lydia, Isabella, Brigitte, Helene, Adelheid, Sheridan, and Savannah, and one grandson, Anthony. Jim is also survived by his brothers Charles ('65) (Patsy) and Michael (Jamie), his sisters Patsy ('62) and Debbie (Chip), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Trujillo, his twin brothers Ron ('70) and Don ('70), and his grandson, Reuben.
A memorial service for family and friends who would like to celebrate Jim's life will take place at David and Theresa's home in Pasco on November 3, 2013, at 11am.
