Vic Marshall ~ recent

Vic Marshall, 60, of Beverly Hills, MI passed away in Portland, OR on December 17, 2013.

There are very few people you meet in life who impact you the way that Victor did. His larger-than-life personality, great sense of humor, and charming wit attracted casual acquaintances many of whom became lifelong friends. He was kind, outgoing, ambitious, and was extremely generous both spiritually and financially. Once Victor knew your birthday, you received a card every year. He was always very thoughtful, and would share whatever he had. In his free time, Victor loved to cook, enjoyed fine wine and particularly enjoyed sharing it with friends and family. Music was a lifelong passion as well. He played the accordion, piano, guitar and most of all loved listening, and singing along to his favorite oldies.

Vic was born in Portland, OR on May 25, 1953, the second child of Leona and Rodney Marshall. In the early 1960s, the family moved to Richland which they called home for many years. As a young man, Vic was a strong swimmer and worked as a lifeguard. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying duck hunting and fishing. He attended Columbia High School (Col-Hi) where he was a proud Bomber and remained an active alum until his death. He worked for a local gas station after school and often told tales of his times there. He was grateful for and enjoyed a year in South Africa as an exchange student. He maintained many relationships connected to that experience throughout his life. He was blessed to have many close lifelong friends, and was part of a large, loving family. The greatest of these was the love of his life, Maureen.

Recently, Vic studied and became a pastor so that he could officiate at his sister's wedding. It was a great honor for him.

Professionally Vic was well known and well respected. He had over 25 years of work experience in the construction industry. The last decade was spent developing his own company (Leveraged Resources) with the mission of helping contractors better manage their information systems and related procedures, and at the same time developed his Sage software dealership, Accordant Midwest.

Vic's love of life, learning and people led to his participation in many industry organizations. He was a past National At-Large director for the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA), member of CFMA's executive committee, and previous chair of the education committee. He took an active role in CFMA at the local, regional and national levels. His greatest honor was being named the 1998 recipient of CFMA's Deborah Hahn Award which is given annually to a member who best exemplifies the spirit of CFMA. Vic was also active in the Construction Association of Michigan and the Project Management Institute.

His focus on learning and sharing his knowledge led to roles as a seminar presenter, after-dinner and key-note speaker at a variety of industry related functions. He also authored articles for a number of industry publications on a regular basis. Some of the industry groups he has worked with include CFMA, NAWIC, MACPA, AICPA, ABC, MCA, NSPE, NECA, ENR and AGC.

Vic felt privileged to serve as the project manager for the annual updates to Financial Management and Accounting for Construction Industry - a 2 volume reference published jointly by CFMA and Nexis/Lexis. He felt his contribution helped insure that the publication continued its reputation as the "bible" for Construction Financial executives.

Vic earned undergraduate degrees in Accounting and Economics and a Masters in Business Administration; all from Eastern Washington University. He was also a licensed contractor in the State of Michigan.

In May 2004 Vic sat for and passed the initial Construction Financial Professional certification exam sponsored by the Institute of Certified Construction Financial Professionals. He recently completed certification as an Information System Auditor by ISACA a credential of which he was very proud.

Vic will be greatly missed by all of those who knew him, loved him, worked with him or were lucky enough to have spent time with him.

Beloved husband of Maureen for 27 years. Dear son of Leona and Rodney Marshall. Brother of Chris ('69) Hopkins (Blaine), Randy ('73) Marshall (Sandy), Connie ('74) Riggs (Mike), Jackie ('75) Marshall, Mary ('80) Marshall-Landis (John), Lanie ('83) Marshall and the late Jeannie. Devoted uncle of numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Funeral Mass Saturday, January 18, 2014, at 1pm - St. Regis RC Church, 3696 Lincoln (at Lahser), Bloomfield Hills, MI. Visitation at the Church begins at 12:30pm.

A Celebration of Vic's life is being planned in his home town of Richland with a date to follow.
