HAROLD NORMAN MORRIS ~ Class of 1953
April 17, 1934 - February 22, 2014

Harold, 79, was born in Lowell, MA on April 17, 1934, and passed away in his Richland home on February 22, 2014. He moved to Richland in 1945 with his parents Juliette Normand Morris and Harold Arthur Morris when his father came to work at the Hanford project.

After graduating from Richland's Columbia High School in 1953, he served in the U.S. Armed Forces in occupied Germany for a few years. Upon his return to the Tri-Cities, he worked at the railroad ice house in Pasco where he cut and lifted the big blocks of ice that were used to cool railroad freight cars before refrigeration was standard. Harold later was employed by the City of West Richland maintenance until his retirement in 1995.

Harold married Anita in 1972. "The best thing I ever did", he would regularly tell his family. They were each other's best friend for the past 42 years. He attended Central United Protestant Church with Anita, and they helped with a children's Sunday school class during their early years.

Many things interested Harold. He loved to watch nature programs and the Antique Road Shows on TV. He enjoyed collecting a variety of things.

Harold was a loving and sharing family man. His niece and nephews remember their strong and gentle uncle carrying one of them on his back with one hanging from either flexed arm.

Preceding him in death are his parents, sister Doris Riggle ('56) and brother Don Morris.

Surviving are his wife, Anita Morris, brother, Bob Morris, sisters-in-law Darlene Morris, Marilyn Phillips, Edith Nisick and Darlene McNaughton; brother-in-law Pete Riggle and several nieces and nephews.

The family will have a commemorative gathering on Harold's birthday, celebrating his life by sharing stories and his favorite pie (mincemeat).
