BOMBER MEMORIAL
JACQUELINE MAE "JACKIE" POOLE CAMPBELL ~ Class of 1954
June 8, 1936 - May 13, 2014
~
Jackie was born in Denver, CO on June 8, 1936, to Herbert and Marie Poole. The family moved to Richland during World War II where the Manhattan Project shaped the area and the people. During this time, her dad brought home to her a particularly ugly pair of war rationed boots, which "Midge" promptly hid. This beautiful little girl, melted her father's heart, and in time, the ugly war rationed boots were replaced by a more feminine pair.
She grew into a dark haired beauty, with the look of the '50's Elizabeth Taylor. She graduated from Richland's Columbia High School on June 7, 1954, turned 18 the very next day and flew to Washington, D.C. to marry Robert Dean Campbell on June 11, 1954, while he was in the Army, posted in the White House. Jackie had been given a brand new strand of pearls from her parents for graduation and they promptly proceeded to break when she got on the plane and she sat on pearls all the way to D.C. A simple and less security conscious time, she swam in the White House pool, bowled in the bowling alley and enjoyed Virginia Beach whenever they had the chance.
After their return to Richland, children followed, with Ronald Dean in 1955, Cheryl Susan in 1957 and Teresa Ann in 1959. In these years, with a growing family, she was beautiful, vibrant and connected to her children. She enjoyed the company of her friends in a sorority, crafts and many activities with Ron, Cheryl and Teresa in school.
As her children moved into their own lives, Jackie began to suffer from the overpowering dementia that developed into Alzheimer's disease, that eventually took her life on May 13, 2014. Before his passing her husband, Bob ('51), was by her side, helping her through her medical issues. After Bob's passing Ron and Sheila, Beth and Michael and the amazing staff of Guardian Angel Homes were the driving force in her day to day care.
Jackie is survived by her children Ron (Sheila) Campbell, Cheryl (Ed) Mora and Teresa (Patrick) Garcia, siblings Richard ('49), John ('59), and Elizabeth (Mike) Muir: her grandchildren, Clint, Courtney, Nicole, Colleen, Simone, Ross, Monique, and Cosette: niece, Jennifer; and her great-grandchildren, Taylor, Baleigh, Kyal, Lloyd, Madeleine, Quinn, Henry, and Caleb.
We have witnessed the cruelty of Alzheimer's and the toll it took on the beautiful life of our beloved mother, and it helps us rest easy knowing that she is now with our father, Bob, and she is out of the darkness. The remains of both of our parents, together, will be placed at Camp Dewey Clear Lake where they met and fell in love so many years ago.
Rest in Peace, Mom... and know we all loved you so much.
