MARY LOU CRAWFORD ADAMS ~ Class of 1945

MaryLou was born on May 1, 1927, in Greenfield, Iowa, to Tim and Mary Crawford. She passed away August 28, 2015.
MaryLou spent much of her youth in Iowa before moving to Richland when her father took a job working on the railroad for the Hanford Project. MaryLou graduated from Richland High School in 1945. She took a job as a waitress in the Recreation Hall that much of the Hanford workers would visit. This is where she met Bob Adams, a power operator working for G.E. in the Hanford area. They married on December 5, 1947. After their marriage MaryLou started beauty school and worked as a beauty operator until a job opened in the labs at the 200 area of Hanford.
MaryLou and Bob where drawn from a Bureau of Reclamation lottery for property and became the third house built in the Burbank Heights area in 1952. They worked hard to build their home and develop the land while continuing to work at Hanford. They still live in that house today.
MaryLou become a full-time mother in 1956 with the arrival of her son Randy and the next year their daughter Lynda. Once the children were in school MaryLou decided to rejoin the work force and became a cook for the Columbia Burbank School District. She then attended Columbia Basin College taking courses to become a secretary and was employed by the college in the Continuing Education Department from which she retired in 1985.
MaryLou enjoyed being outdoors from flying her plane, fall hunting trips and the family camp outs to Twin Lakes and making life long friends along the way. She loved the Blue Mountains of Oregon and spent many months building a cabin in the area. They enjoyed many hours at the cabin with family and friends.
MaryLou was preceded in death by her parents Tim and Mary Crawford.
She is survived by her husband of 73 years Robert "Bob" Adams; children: Randy (Lanell), and Lynda (Kelly) O’Connor; grandchildren: Galen, Linda, and Bobbie Jean (Boe); great-grandchildren: Presley, Mathew, Bode, and Brock; brother Marion Crawford (Phyllis) and many nieces and nephews.
MaryLou’s passing leaves a tremendous sadness in the hearts of many.
Funeral services were held on September 5, 2015, at Mueller’s Tri-Cities Funeral Home in Kennewick. Graveside services followed at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, Kennewick.
