December 16, 1932 - May 11, 2015

Markey Learock - 1951 - Sr. Portrait ~ Markey Learock Keinath ~ recent

Markey passed away on May 11, 2015, at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark, Ohio. She was born on December 16, 1932, in Hackensack, New Jersey to Ernest and Lucille Rishel Learock.

Because her father was a business entrepreneur and involved in the development of commercial aviation, Markey's early life was active and varied, and she grew up on both the east and west coasts. She was a 1951 graduate of Richland's Columbia High School and soon afterward began her working career as a secretary at the nearby Hanford Atomic Energy Works. She met her future husband while he was serving with the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis, WA.

Markey was a talented artist and painted in both oil and watercolors. She taught folk art painting to a number of students in her home. She also worked at several businesses in the Newark area and had retired from the Meijer store in 1995. A devoted mother and homemaker, Markey was an extremely good cook and had a talent for interior decorating, which kept her home worthy of the cover of Better Homes and Gardens. She also enjoyed tending to the many plants and flowerbeds around her home.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Newark, although declining health had kept her from active worship in recent years.

Those who preceded her in death: her loving husband of over 50 years, Jerry Keinath; her parents; her siblings: Gloria (Jack) Lewellyn, Barbara (John) Dallaire, and Jodrey Learock.

She is survived by sons, Steve (Laura) and Jeff; daughter, Jody (Greg); grandchildren: Brent, Chris, Courtney, Trevor, and Heather; and great-grandchildren: Myranda, Preston, Zoey, and Alexis.

In accordance with her wishes, no calling hours or service will be observed. A memorial service and inurnment at Cedar Hill Cemetery will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Licking County Aging Program, 1058 E. Main St, Newark, OH; or the Licking Memorial Health Foundation's Memorial Giving Program at 740-348-4102.
