Darrell DesChane ~ recent

Darrell was born May 29, 1936, in Green Bay, Wisconsin and passed away September 17, 2015, in Richland.

Darrell moved with his family from Green Bay to Portland, Oregon in 1948 and then settled in Richland in 1949. Darrell graduated from Richland's Columbia High School in 1954.

Shortly thereafter he began his career at Hanford where he started in the mailroom. Darrell had a passion for all things technical and mechanical and this interest gained him access to the machinist’s apprenticeship program. In 1959 he became a master machinist and was employed in special fabrication projects for the government for over 40 years.

Darrell and C.M. "Pat" McMannis were married October 1, 1955. They lived in Richland until 1963 when they moved to Pasco. They raised their three children and retired to a comfortable life on their one acre mini farm.

Darrell was a proud lifetime member of the NRA and enjoyed many hours of shooting in competitions with his friends at the Tri-Cities Silhouette Association. Sundays were an especially great day for Darrell during NASCAR season, as a devoted fan he would spend many hours watching the cars racing around the track. When his daughter Vicki and brother Clancy were alive he spent many hours with them at their favorite fishing holes, casting a line and sharing stories. You would often find him in recent years with his son Ryan fishing at Williams Lake. Darrell enjoyed good food and had a knack for enhancing any recipe. He passed his enthusiasm for food down to his son Mike, time and again you would hear them swapping recipe’s or taste testing each other’s latest concoctions.

Darrell will be missed by his friends and family with whom he shared many an adventure camping at Conrad Meadows, traveling, connecting with at the annual DesChane picnic and playing cards.

Darrell especially loved his three grandchildren, he was a great role model in their lives and took the time to teach them the value of money, the importance of integrity and the meaning of honesty. They will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Francis; mother Minnie; siblings: Clarence ('55) and Mary Jo DesChane Dailey ('64); and daughter, Vicki Lynn.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Pat ('57); sons: Michael (Monique) and Ryan; grandchildren: Garren, Brynne (Nigel) and Preston (Terrin); great granddaughter, Shay; brother Delbert ('57)(Shirley); in-laws: Larry and Kit Slater and Marilyn Ward; as well as his numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved deeply.

Graveside service was at Resthaven Cemetery on September 26, 2015.
