BEVERLY ANN "BEV" BRANDT COOK ~ Class of 1961
February 21, 1943 - April 12, 2015

Born February 21, 1943, in St John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, she left to be with her Lord, and her husband William E. Cook on April 12, 2015.

Raised in Richland, she graduated from Richland's Columbia High School with the class 1961.

Her life was spent in the same home in Seattle where she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Brian (Jenna) Cook; siblings: Margie ('64) and Bill ('66); nieces Suzanne and Lisa; nephews David, Cameron, and Greg; and many great nieces and nephews to whom she was known as Lady Bev; as well as her beloved dog, Cooper.

Memorial service was held April 26, 2015, at Maple Leaf Lutheran Church in Seattle. Gifts of remembrance can be made and mailed to the same.

Remberance from Bev's brother, Bill

Bev was born Beverly Ann Brandt on February 21, 1943, in St John’s, Newfoundland. Subsequently, she moved with her parents to Grand Forks, North Dakota. In 1951, Richland became their new home where Bev's father was employed by General Electric.

Beverly graduated from Richland's Columbia High School in 1961. After graduation, she was a secretary on the Hanford Site. Upon moving to Seattle, Bev met her future husband, Bill Cook, employed at University Hospital. They were married on April 2, 1966.

Soon, they purchased their first and only home in Seattle. Bev began work with MacBride, Sax & MacIver and later with Preston Gates & Ellis, LLP from which she retired in 2002. More recently, she was contacted by her church friend, Paula Rose, to begin working one day a week with Child Psychology Northwest. From 2002 until her death, Bev was known as the "Wind beneath my wings" by her "Boss Lady," Deborah Hill and her co-worker, Julie King.

On March 5, 1976, Bev gave birth to Brian E.T. Cook, the love of their lives. They found great joy in nurturing, loving and shaping Brian through numerous athletic, community events and family vacations.

For many years, Bev and Bill led Boy Scout troops and were active at nearby Maple Leaf Lutheran Church where Bev was a church secretary/treasurer and led a weekly sewing/quilting group.

Beverly's passion for sewing and quilting motivated her to sew and donate 150 pillowcases to the Tacoma Youth for Christ Foster Care Program this past fall.

After 44 years of marriage, Bill passed away two days following Bev's birthday on February 23, 2010. Subsequently, Bev has traveled to Hawaii, Sanibel Island, Florida; Hawaii; Seaside, Oregon and Newfoundland and enjoyed visits to Richland and beyond with her brother. Bill Brandt ('66) and wife, Jackie.

Known as "Lady Bev" by her many nieces and nephews, she is survived by her son, Brian E.T Cook (Jenna), her sister, Margie Brandt Gilchrist ('64), and her brother Bill Brandt ('66).

Bev left us too soon but offers this quote… "The loss of great love produces great grief." So, true for us - her friends and family. Bev's family shares this prayer with you.

"Thank you, Lord, for this day.
Make me wise and prudent in all I do and say.
Help me where I'm weak, guide me where I'm strong.
Inspire me to be truthful, and sorry when I'm wrong.
When this day is over and I lie down to rest,
May I hear you say to me, 'Today you did your best?'"

We rejoice knowing that Bev was an enthusiastic follower of Jesus Christ and sought to keep Him as a focal point her life. And…now is gathered in His arms.
