Jim died peacefully Tuesday, December 29, 2015, in Springfield, Oregon, with family by his side. Jim was born in Richland's Kadlec Hospital on December 18, 1951, to Eva A. Duppong Schirado and Victor M. Schirado.
He attended Christ the King elementary, Chief Joseph Junior High and Columbia High School. He graduated in 1970 and then attended Central Washington University and Evergreen College. After attending college Jim began his restaurant career at the family owned The Bread Box Bakery and Sandwich Shop in Richland and was a partner with the late Chuck Freeman at Chez Chaz (later Olympic Blue) in Kennewick.
The death of his partner Chuck Freeman and Jim's declining health forced early retirement and eventually long term care for dementia. Jim's long term illness caused personality changes that were at times difficult for family and friends to deal with. Jim was a gifted artist, ceramicist, photographer, silversmith and cook. He loved all animals, especially his own many dogs, pot belly pig, goat, African Gray parrot and other varied pets. In his last year, even with his disabilities, he volunteered at the local animal shelter in Newberg, Oregon, which brought him great joy.
A few days before Jim's death, a 64th birthday celebration was held for him which was shared by many who had come to know and care for him. He enjoyed all the party food and music. Jim will be remembered as a loving, tender, funny and very generous son, brother and friend. Those of us who knew him in his younger years will remember him as our loyal and multi-talented "Jimmy".
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his siblings: Gery ('62) (Patti), Yvonne ('66), Victoria ('71) (Mike), and Sara ('76) (Scott); and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He will be greatly missed.
There will be no public memorial but our family would be honored by your donation, in memory of Jim to: Newberg Animal Shelter, 902 Brutscher Street Ste. D PMB 107, Newberg, Oregon 97132, Attn: Jan Floren, President http://newberganimals.com/
