JILL ANNE SOBOTKA HILLMER ~ Class of 1977
May 15, 1959 — August 16, 2015
On Sunday, August 16, 2015, Jill passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior at Trios Hospital. She was born in Richland on May 15, 1959, the youngest child of Duane and Dorothy Sobotka.
She attended school in Richland and graduated from Richland's Columbia High School in 1977.
Jill graduated from Concordia Teachers College in Seward, NE with a master’s degree in Education in 1992. She taught as a special education teacher in the schools at Aberdeen, WA and McLaughlin Middle School in Pasco.
In 2007 she married the love of her life, Rich Hillmer. They resided in Plano, IA for 3 years. She tutored at the Centerville High School and taught at the Indian Hills Community College before returning to Pasco where she taught special education and second grade at Ruth Livingston Elementary School. She loved teaching and she loved her students.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; great niece, Ameliah Perez; and several aunts and uncles.
Surviving her is her loving husband, Rich; her parents, Duane and Dorothy Sobotka; siblings: Joette ('68) Sheeley, Judy ('70) Drinkwater (Bob), Jeff ('73) Sobotka (Ramona), and Dr. Jon ('75) Sobotka (Roberta); brother-in-law, Carl Hillmer (Shelly); sister-in-law, Marna Whitney (Phil); and sister-in-law, Nancy Priest (Marty). She is also survived by her thirteen nieces and nephews; eleven great nieces and nephew who loved her dearly.
A memorial service was held at Redeemer Richland Lutheran Church on August 22, 2015.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Tri-Cities cancer ctr, or the Pasco Education Foundation.
