From: MyComputerWorks.com Today's hint/Question: Clean_Screens Re: Hint from MyComputerWorks.com Can I clean my screen with Windex/(insert favorite cleaner)? The fast answer is no, do not use chemical cleaners on your electronic devices - that said here is a detailed explanation of how to properly clean your LCD screens, smart phones, camera screens and other sensitive surfaces without causing damage: LCD screens are pretty delicate, and you don't want to press hard on them, because that can burn out the pixels. Instead, turn your monitor off (so you can better see the dirty spots), and grab a dry microfiber cloth. Many monitors and other gadgets come with one if you need one there are several cheap options here. From there, just gently wipe the screen. If you need to, add a little bit of water. In most cases, the microfiber cloth should be all you need. If you have a more hearty build-up of spots or gunk, resist the urge to press hard and lightly wet the cloth with a 50-50 mix of water and white vinegar. You can use a special monitor cleaner if you desire, but the vinegar/water mix should work just fine. If you can, use distilled water (available at most stores) instead of tap water, since tap water is likely to leave white spots on your screen from salt or other deposits. Remember, as you're doing this, that you want to use a soft cloth, preferably microfiber. Do not use anything paper- based, like paper towel, Kleenex, or toilet paper, since it can scratch up your monitor. If you don't have a microfiber cloth, coffee filters will do in a pinch. Also remember never to spray any liquid on the monitor itself?always spray it on your cloth first. Your phones and tablets that have a touch screen can be cleaned with harder cotton cloths and a bit of distilled water applied to the cloth before you clean the screen. They are not as delicate as LCD monitors and TVs so you don't have to be as concerned with the pressure when you wipe the screen. If your keyboard is dirty start with a can of compressed air to blow out dust, dirt and other collected matter. You can put a bit of rubbing alcohol on a cloth to clean your keys after that.
