Re: Stolen Car
Last Thursday, my son went out of his office at
around 4th and Pine in Seattle to get in his car to go
home. The car was gone!! And it is only a 1974 model
that he has had forever, of all the possible cars to
steal.
Anyway I am asking Bombers to call the police if
you see it anywhere. It is a:
1974 Saturn SL 2
Midnight Blue
License 426 FJL
They not only got his car, but his golf clubs in
the trunk, a leather jacket, and the keys to his Ford
Expedition, along with his name and address, of course.
So far there has been no action from the police and
it is kinda scary for some car thief to have all your
info, especially when you have young children.
So any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks.

I was sorry to read of Bill Dunwoody's ('52RIP)
passing. He was a great guy. I fondly remember him
from our pick-up football games in the field in back

good at it, these were fun times and no one got hurt.
My condolences go out to his family and friends in

Well, today may be the day Warren arrives at the
Atlantic Ocean and the completion of his trek across
the US on Route 50 in 50 Days or Less. It depends on
the weather. He is out on US 50 East now, having just
left Easton and heading as far as he can get before the
thunderstorms hit.
He survived the D.C. traffic quite well and enjoyed
the day in our nation's capitol, and felt strong enough
to go on to Annapolis where I drove him across the
Chesapeake Bridge where he got on the bike trail
(Maryland l8) until he could legally get back on US 50
all before l0 am this morning!! He is excited about
reaching the end of this journey and achieving this goal!!
The country and the people have all been wonderful
and kind, except for one rude man in Annapolis last
night. I told him he was unlike the rest of the
Americans I have enjoyed meeting across this great
country of ours.
It's not the goal, it's the Journey that makes life
worthwhile, and it's been a great journey, despite the
fact that no one has honked at my Bomber License Plate
holder.
Helen Cross Kirk, Easton,Eastern Shores, Maryland
PS: Thanks for the traffic warning, Earl, but Warren is
enjoying a wide shoulder now that he got back on 50, so
he's quite safe from all the traffic whizzing by, and
perhaps it isn't quite a bad as normal with the bad
weather predicted. We felt so fortunate to make it all
across Virginia with no rain, as we've read and heard
about all your May rain. Warren had great weather his
whole trip across that state, as well as all the
States. God must have wanted Warren to succeed in
making this trip, as he's certainly been blessed with
great weather all the way, from the Pacific to the
Atlantic Ocean.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yes... it's a special day in the

lax in my observance of Birthdays... I'd say I'm
getting old but that would put Uncle Burt ('59) in a
fit of the giggles and while it's good to giggle and
fun to laugh, at his age we gotta be careful! This lady
was way too sophisticated for me to get up close and
personal with my first year of high school... when I
was but a lowly sophomore... (According to our own
number 32 ('63)... I'm still a lowly sophomore and
require his permission to even speak to the '63
girls... let alone hit on them)... I had to admire her
from afar... she was my first in a line of a family of
beauties that I would come to know and love... Her
husband has a collection of Hawaiian shirts that makes
my little collection look... uh sophomorish... but
hey... we learn from our elders... I don't think that
quite came out right... In any event... I hear the
girls will be gathering at sister Kathie's ('64) during
the reunion so If you don't see this chick at the '63
gathering... be sure and give her a call at Kathie's in
June... hey it is June... Lest I forget... I must
apologize to Sandy Jones Fishback ('65) for missing
her b-day on May 16th... It was on my list of to dos...

Warren did make it to the Atlantic Ocean about 7:30pm
last night!! He did face some hard rain, but except for
hearing thunder, and seeing one strike of lighting, the
thunderstorms never materialized!! We spent the night
hearing the ocean right outside our motel room!! Today
he was interviewed for the local paper, and we went to
a local Methodist church to share our good news!!
The strangest thing happened when we were stopped
by the side of Hwy. 50 yesterday (they have great wide
shoulders for bicycles here in Maryland): twice when I
had stopped to see if Warren wanted to continue in the
rain, a car honked at us when they drove by us, the
white van and the bicyclist in the yellow shirt!!
Right away I wondered if it might be a Bomber!! One car
did stop to see if we had broken down, but having done
this across US 50 the whole way, I was surprised when 2
cars honked at us in the last 50 miles of our trip!!
Warren is elated to have completed his journey.
Elated and walking rather slowly. He wanted to get on
email to share his good news with some friends who have
supported him all the way, and we found a library that
is open on Sunday here in Salisbury. This is becoming a
rarity, as most libraries are closed on Sunday.
I guess I can't quite believe that he did it, and
that this goal is met, and the trip is over, except for
sorting the pictures. Warren really did have a guardian
angel on his shoulder for the 44 days it took to make
the trip. We are both thankful that he hung in and
survived the trip so well. Well, I now know if I would
exercise hard for 6-8 hours a day for the next month
and a half, I would lose weight!! It's been a fun
experience for us as we are trying to figure out what
we want to do in our retirement, other than travel. I'm
coming us with travel more as an option. I guess we may
have to start considering a motor home of some sort, but
I like going into motels (as long as they are clean),
and having someone else cook and wash the bathroom, etc.
Having visited all the other states (on this trip
and others), I have to say, I am still very glad I grew
up in Bomberland!!
Oh, the very last 2 days of our trip, it got warmer
where we were in and around Washington D.C. and on into
Maryland, than it was at home. But I think it was
warmer at home than it was where we were in all but
these last 2 days. Friends of ours told us it was l0l°
in the Sacramento, CA area last week. Warren was very
thankful it had been cool, almost cold when he'd biked
there in the latter part of April. He figured that was
the narrow window of opportunity to avoid getting
scorched in Nevada: late April, and temperatures have
showed that to be true.
In a few days he hopes to have the complete trip on
his website:
http://www.earthwaterphoto.com/bikingUSroute50.html
along with photos.

I was telling my mother about one of the on-going

yesterday, and she asked if I had posted anything about
my father's passing on March 9th this year. I told her
that it really hadn't occurred to me because I always
read, but never write in. I don't know why!
My dad, Dave Creighton, was a great guy, and the
rock of our family. If any of you remember him, you
know what a patient, long-suffering, and all-around
great guy he was. He had really been my fall-back guy
since my divorce in 1991, and I miss him being here,
but feel his support and presence with me still.
On the subject of grandchildren, I agree, they ARE
great! I have 15 going on 18, but when you have 10

Congratulations Bombers.
I read the local newspapers here in Puyallup, WA to
my delight was quite excited to see the Richland Golf
team won the state title. Not that it made headlines
here in the Tacoma News Tribune, but it should have.
Man good job guys at Canyon Lakes, that is one tough
course even if it is in Lion country. I did see a
familiar name on the team: Bixler. Gee would this be
any relation to the Great "Jim" who led the Bombers
golf team (with Cartmell) in '72. I know the answer is
yes. Good job, Jimmy.... teaching the son... hope I
read about him on the PGA in years to come.
Also very good job to the Richland boys soccer
team. My dad says they won in a shoot out in Camas.
Does anyone know where Camas is? ha ha (Cec). To beat
an Undefeated team. Its great to see the East side
dominance once again ruling the sports world here in

Re: Airport Security/Homeland Security
My daughter Kimberly Ahrens Booth, who wishes we
had moved to Richland when she was young, (she would be
an '84wb) works for Homeland Security as a Supervisor
at Sea-Tac airport. Nick Nelson ('56) lives close to
Kimberly. He had brought a box of "Proud to be a Bomber"
shirts back from Richland to be delivered to me.
When Nick returned from Richland I happened to be on my
way to visit Kimberly and her family so we arranged for
him to bring the Sweatshirts and t-shirts to her home.
Kimberly had not seen the shirts. I had told her what
Nick was delivering. She immediately said she wanted
one. I opened it and gave her one immediately. It was
like I gave her a world she always wanted.
I called Kimberly today to ask if she had worn the
shirt and where. She said, "mainly around the house and
shopping but wouldn't hesitate to wear it anywhere". I
asked her about wearing it in the airport (she is in
uniform all the time going to and from the airport).
Kimberly said "wearing things like the "Proud to be a
Bomber" shirt are not what they are looking for.
"Verbal statements are what they are listening for".
Plus of course wearing bombs which she didn't say but I
knew what she meant because I have listened to her lots
since she got hired and went through training. Have I
been concerned for my daughter? You bet!! She has
handled it all extremely well.
I have worn my jacket and shirts with the cloud and
the bomb in large crowds. Lots of people have looked
but the only thing ever said was "is that from your
high school"? I am very proud to wear the cloud and
bomb. Always ready to answer any questions.

weeks from Saturday. As of today [6/3/03] there are
only 20 prepaid registrations. If there is not more
interest in the dinner, the food will have to be
cancelled. We need to give a head count to the Hanford

wedding June 14th. My sister, Karen Daugherty Buchanan ('68),
and her husband live in Milton-Freewater... just across
the state line from our old formidable enemy the Walla
Walla Whatevers. We will be leaving to drive back home
on Father's Day, June 15th... can't stay for the
reunion, I am sorry to say. We are looking forward to
the trip, however, as I haven't been "home" in more
than two years. My husband and I will be traveling with
my son and his wife, their two little boys, ages 4 and
10 months, and my daughter's oldest daughter, Alyra,
age 7. Quite a group! My son's wife has never seen the
Northwest, so they are all very excited.
I am flying my daughter, her husband and their 2
year old twin daughters to Walla Walla... couldn't
quite fit us all in the Expedition! We did have a DVD
player installed... and have lots of movies for the
kids and myself to watch during the trip!! Ha!
I am hoping to have time to make the drive up to
Richland... would love to have the kids see my high

for it.

more street lights... same dust... and a Wal*Mart!!
I remember my Mom calling me to tell me about this

Re: me no VC
Speaking of homeland security during the Vietnam
Police Action... I don't know how many Vietnam Vets
know about this memorial, or want to for that matter.
It was dedicated this last April, 2003. The memorial
is an effort to honor both the American and Vietnamese
soldiers who fought side by side for the freedom of the
people in South Vietnam. Two significant factors: The
sculptor, Tuan Nguyen was born in 1963 South Vietnam,
saw the fall of Saigon, one failed escape and
eventually succeeding in 1988 with getting out. 1991 -
1995, art school in SoCal and his vision of this
memorial. And the location. I live about five miles
from "Little Saigon" which is in the heart of
Westminster, CA. The city of Westminster borders on
Huntington Beach. The population of Vietnamese is
probably close to the population of all the Tri-Cities.
The monument is quite large, very nicely done, long
overdue and a place where the Vietnamese people
involved in their war can come to with pride and
honor. A place where they can remember their families,
comrades and American friends lost in the cause. A
place that can remind them of a home they may never
see again and a place their children may never know. I
have read that the fervor over the political strife of
Vietnam has been waning due to both aging of the combat
vets and "boat people" and the assimilation of the
young ones into American society that are too busy
trying to figure out what an Alamo is. The hatred of
the Communists is still extreme. The Vietnamese fly
the flag of old Vietnam all over town. You see it
everywhere. I am sure a few would return home to a
non-Communist government if given the opportunity, but
the Vietnamese Americans are here to stay.
If you are ever in Orange County and want to see
something quite interesting, to say the least, take a
little jaunt down Bolsa off Beach Blvd. in Westminster,
CA. You will believe you are in Saigon by the names of
the stores with the exception of Donuts and Taco Bell.
Stop at one of the large Vietnamese grocery stores,
go back to the butcher shop and check out the huge,
overcrowded, tanks of live catfish. The hacking and
whacking. The smells. The din of a language you
cannot distinguish. Few items in the store will be
recognizable. Not quite as entertaining as Disney or
Knotts, but special for sure.
A photo of this memorial is difficult to capture.
Here is one. See the big "pot" at the right. This is a
Buddhist whatchamacallit, I believe. These pots were
very very small and usually had incense burning in
them. We came across these bamboo shrine/pagoda type
structures twice while I was out in the middle of no
where. Both times incense was smoldering and nobody
around.
Very daunting. I had an emotional breakdown while
visiting the memorial and went home to clean my rifle.
Very therapeutic... cleaning a rifle.

It was nice to hear from you. We lived just up the

living there for 15 years. We always took in the old

Re: Mosquito Remedy:
In line with remembering the DDT trucks and the
current West Nile Virus problem; this might work, at
least it won't hurt to try it. Pass this on to anyone
who likes sitting out in the evening or when they're
having a cook out.
Here's a tip that was given at a recent gardening
forum. Put some water in a white dinner plate and add a
couple drops of Lemon Fresh Joy dish detergent. Set the
dish on your porch, patio, or other outdoor area. Not
sure what attracts them, the lemon smell, the white
plate color, or what, but mosquitoes flock to it, and
drop dead shortly after drinking the Lemon Fresh
Joy/water mixture, and usually within about 10 feet of
the plate.
Check this out... it works just super! May seem
trivial, but it may help control mosquitoes around your
home, especially in the South and elsewhere where the
West Nile virus is reaching epidemic proportions in
mosquitoes, birds, and humans.

Re: NEED BOMBER HELP re: DOE Workers Comp Program
I need some help for my dad, Truman Wingfield, back
there in Richland. Many of you Bombers know him and
my mom Carol, as they have been residents since 1947.
I believe he is getting the run around. He has a
terminal disease called pulmonary fibrosis, which is
fibrosis of the lungs. If the Doctors had said it's
from Asbestos or Berilium, he would of qualified for
the DOE program that compensates workers at DOE sites.
The doc he has seen so far says he doesn't believe
it's from Asbestos or Berilium, but he doesn't know
what it's from. My dad worked for many years out at
Hanford as an electrician.
I think we need a little legal help, or at least
some advice.

other trips to take: possibly a mission trip to Costa

I'm shocked, SHOCKED, make that surprised, shocked
and not too severely disappointed that no one made
notice of the importance of Saturday, the 7th of June.
It was forty years ago last Saturday (Saturday,
being the 7th of June) that I, Frank Osgard, was guilty
of a social indiscretion, the likes of which I hope
have never been repeated. Having not exactly graduated
(too many Crafts and not enough English credits will do
that) with the Gold Medal Class of '63, I was "posing"
as a graduate on our class party onboard the luxurious
Columbia Queen. The Chessmen were rocking out down
below in the "Ballroom", dun dun dun dun dun dun dun
dun dun dun and the gay repartee of the most recently
commenced was flowing in quantities exceeded only by
the Popov Vodka, Bourbon Supreme and my ill advised
choice for the night of Sloe Gin and warm Hires root
beer. Not having a date, relegated me to the Boiler
Room, really it was the boiler room, to drown my
disappointment of being denied the blue robe and tassel
of a future alumnus. The heat, the constant rocking of
the earlier mentioned flagship of the Columbia Basin, a
sudden urge for fresh air, a slippery dance floor, too
many people and the rest is history.
Forty years of wearing that hair shirt, but I'm
looking forward to our reunion in a couple of weeks.
I'm thinking catharsis, but will settle for a lot less.
Please don't mention it around the current Frau Frank,
she's a Sunday School teacher type who thinks I missed
graduation because of the Chicken Pox.
Whose idea was that boat trip anyhow? It had to
have been either Kenny Wright or Cappy Haines, who I
understand will only be a spectator from up above.

that's why everyone forgot

So happy to hear he's still alive and well and

repetitive pronunciation regimen in the classroom, I
still remember how to pronounce at least three French

Re: Hamstring Pull
Alright all you Bomber athletes, sports injury
professionals and/or doctors, I need your help. My
youngest daughter, Amanda (12), just pulled her
hamstring while performing a dance routine on stage
this weekend. She's OK, but we need to get her back
on the rehab road ASAP. Luckily, with the end of the
school year, she has a two-week break between her next
dance session (she dances at Cornish in Seattle and
was just awarded a dance scholarship). Yeah! She is
currently on ice treatment (minimum of 48 hours).
After that I was considering alternating hot/cold
(ice massage) for stimulation prior to any activity
together with a wrap. Do any of you have suggestions
regarding the treatment, length of rehab time (remember
Edgar Martinez -Mariners) or other information/contacts
the would be beneficial.
I remember many years ago, prior to my Junior year
& football season "two a days", tearing my hamstring
very badly. I had a water-skiing incident during a dock
start. Steve (Bo) Miller ('79) was driving the boat...?
It took a great deal of time (over six months as I
recall) before everything felt like normal. Have any of
you had similar injuries? What was the length of your
rehab? I look forward to any help.
Thanks,

Re: Prayers for Nila
Many of the regular readers of the Alumni Sandstorm

Cottonwood Drive (that's at the corner of Lee Blvd. and
Cottonwood Drive). Mr. Gulley (Al) and Mrs. Gulley
(Nila) lived there for a long time and raised their six
kids - Marilyn ('54), Bob ('56), Donna ('58), Patty
('60), Susan ('66) and Steve ('69)- and probably 50 or
more other ragamuffins indigenous to the area.
I married into the family (being lucky enough to
snag Patty when her guard was down and getting her to
say "Yes" in spite of all she knew about me) and have
been lucky enough to be one of the family for over 41
years now. We lost dad (Al) in 1970 but have been lucky
enough to have mom (Nila) still around and kicking (she
was 89 in March, and as the English say "She's a tough
old bird"!!!).
Early yesterday morning, mom (Nila), was admitted
to Kadlec Hospital in Richland with some problems. She
had surgery yesterday afternoon to repair a herniated
bowel and appears to be doing OK at this point. This
coming only 2 weeks after she had a pacemaker put in
has left her a little on the weak side. If you feel
inclined, say a prayer for her, she can use all the
help she can get. She could probably also use some
cheering up.
Anybody who would like to say "Hi" to her, send her
a card, flowers, etc. could contact either Bob, who
lives out in the old Badger Canyon area, or Steve, who
lives in West Richland to see if a hospital visit is
OK, and/or to get a room number.

Re: Mouse Alternatives
To:Diane Carpenter Kipp ('72)
Repetitive motion injuries can be quite debilitating,
so I hope you're taking action before it's too serious.
When configuring a manufacturing operation where
repetitive motion injuries are a possibility, we ensure
the job design permits changing positions at least
every 20 minutes or so, to prevent the problem. I was
surprised when visiting an old bobbin mill in the Lake
District of England last month to learn they used the
same principle back then, for the same reason. That was
an old factory powered by a c. 1850 steam engine, drive
shaft, and leather belts!
An infrared mouse enables you to readily move the
mouse to various positions frequently, to prevent the
stretching that sometimes occurs with mouse use. It
doesn't require a special mouse pad, so you can even
operate it quite well over your trouser leg, for
example. Using the thumb, rather than the forefinger
also helps.
For intensive mouse applications, I've been quite
pleased with the Wacom Intuos 2 4x5 tablet. It uses a
pen, rather than finger pressure on the pad, and
proximity, rather than touch to navigate. I use it for
Photoshop where use of a mouse would be painful after
awhile. I have it connected simultaneously with my
mouse, so I can go back and forth between the two
devices, to follow the 20 minute rule, above. You can
learn more about it at http://www.wacom.com/
The other approach is to get a life! Get off the
computer and go outside to enjoy the world. That's a
lot more fun, though perhaps a bit less productive.
Good luck!

Hi Bill,
Please know that our family's love, thoughts and
prayers are with your Dad, Truman, and also with all
your family. You know how very special they are to us.
From experience, I recommend that Truman get, at
the least, a second opinion ~ perhaps, a doctor in
Seattle. I just called and talked with a neighbor of
Ruthann's ('58) in Richland. This past year, their
doctor in Richland sent them to a doctor at Virginia
Mason Hospital in Seattle, when it was thought that
their son had Cystic Fibrosis. It was found by the
doctor at Virginia Mason that he has something serious,
but less serious than CF. If you or your folks would
like to talk to her, let me know and I will send you
her telephone number, as she would be happy to talk
with you. At the least, if another doctor's diagnosis
did relate your Dad's Pulmonary fibrosis to Asbestos or
Beryllium it would be worth it.
From 1950 to 1985, I had 14 major surgeries done in
different Seattle Hospitals. I was first sent to
Children's Hospital by our excellent Richland doctor,
at age seven. I've always been very grateful for that
and I strongly recommend second opinions. In 1999, when
I had my Pulmonary embolism, if it weren't for my
doctor here, calling in a Pulmonary Specialist, I'd
been gone by that evening. After two days of not being
expected to live, I turned the corner ~ Thank God! Of
course, your family will know what is best for your
Dad. Please give both your folks a hug from me.

they were very pungent! I was a disruption, certainly,

I too have had problems from excessive mousing. I'm
a bit embarrassed to admit it as I am an ergonomics/
human factors professional! Just goes to show CTDs
(cumulative trauma disorders) don't discriminate.
Anyhow, I found an alternative mousing device that I

Check out the Contour RollerMouse

I do a lot of computer work (mostly Visual Basic
programming) and use my mouse a lot. It took me no more
than a day or two to get use to the new RollerMouse.
I've also started using more keyboard shortcuts and
taking more frequent breaks and doing stretches and
exercises for the hand/wrist/arm (actually practicing
what I preach). The discomfort and pain has all gone
away. Hope this helps.

forget this particular moment. It was first period,
Monday morning (fall 1981). One of our classmates and a
good friend of mine Todd Merrill (RIP, would have been
class of '81) was killed in a car accident over the
weekend. The desks in Mr. LaBreque's classroom were in
a semicircle and Todd and I sat toward the back of the
room next to one another. It was so very sad sitting in
my seat and having Todd's seat empty that morning. I
think the configuration of the desks made it especially
obvious that someone was missing. Mr. LaBreque started
class by mentioning our loss and suggesting we take a
couple of minutes in silence to say a quick Our Father
or whatever. The class spent a couple of minutes in
silence after which class started and continued as
normal. His actions were so simple but they had a very
comforting effect - I remember it like it was yesterday.

80s today.

Re: Alternate form of mouse
Diane,
If your hand isn't too far gone, there are steps to
take. First off, the problem isn't excessive mousing,
it's incorrect form. At JoAnn's , in the notions
department you can get the hand-ez (sp?) glove that is
used for needlepoint, etc., it gives support to the
hand and wrist and helps to maintain proper form.
[http://joann.com/ - I couldn't find the glove. -Maren]
Start with your posture... by the way (as I sit here
with one foot up on the chair next to mine, leaning
back and resting my wrists on the keyboard holder--I'm
asking for carpal tunnel).
I hope you have had a chance to talk with your
doctor and perhaps explore physical therapy, or at
least talk to someone with more knowledge than myself.
Also, try switching to the other hand. It'll take a
bit, but I've been able to do it, due to having a left-
handed grandmother with computer problems that needed
fixing. You can re-set your mouse so that the buttons
are reversed, or leave it as-is.
Also look into the mouse that sits still and you
move the ball with your thumb. With a good mouse pad,
with gel wrist support, you might get good results.
This is what my step-mom does. Hope your hand and arm
feel better soon!

Re: Monsieur Pierre Labreque
I'm proud to be Monsieur Labreque "cousin"... for
him being French Canadian and me being French. I had
him as contemporary history teacher... he gave me an A+
for a report about the war in Afghanistan. Spending the
year in your nice Richland I was getting a few
newspapers regularly from France. So I had the chance
to get another point of view... That was one thing but
I'm pretty sure (even if my grades were not so bad for
a Frenchy) that what "made it" is that I wrote it in
French!!!
By the way I loved Stu Osborn's ('71) French
entries... Monsieur Labreque gave me a pin of the red
Canadian leaf, I still have it and is now one of my
son's pins collection. The pins fashion is over now
but in France at this time we didn't have them yet...

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Mary
Hartman. Mrs. Hartman was my first grade teacher during
the school year 1962-63. I heard of her cancer battle
from her son, Jeffrey Hartman ('59) via the Sandstorm.
I wrote to Jeff about my concern for his mother and the
wonderful things I remembered about her so many years
ago. I received an e-mail back from Jeffrey telling me
that he had conveyed my message to his mother. You can
imagine my excitement when he said that she remembered
me, a shy young lad that couldn't talk very well! She
was a wonderful lady with a big heart. She took me
under her wing and installed a little confidence in me.
I haven't shut up since.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Hartman

Re: Hamstring pull
To: Larry Davis ('80)
Larry,
Good to see you write in. I've pulled my hamstring
a bunch of times playing Rugby. Just pulled it again
about 2 months ago during practice. Still fresh on my
mind... Best thing to do initially is ice it down. Take
Ibuprophin such as Advil. I take about 800mg that's
about (4) 200mg tablets - but I'm 230 Lbs. For your
daughter - probably 200mg is fine. Advil is an anti-
inflammatory. It keeps the swelling down. It also
relieves the pain. Let the hamstring relax the first
week. Favor it, and by all means don't move it quickly,
as this will re-injure it (in a very painful way).
Make slow graceful moves the first week. The second
week start stretching it out again. This will be
painful. Just stretch it about half the normal amount.
Don't push it. Try the sprinters/hurdlers stretch -
sitting with one leg straight forward and the other
bent at the knee back and stretch forward and back. Do
this each day for about 8 - 10 minutes. Do not run or
jog yet.
On the 3rd week drink lots of water, wait 1 hour
then she can do some faster walking to a short (no more
than 50 yard) jog. This will start to loosen it up. Do
NOT sprint. Sprinting and quick, strenuous action will
tear it up again. And when it snaps it's very painful.
In about 4 weeks she should be able to do the things
she used to, but it will still be a little painful.
Main thing to remember: take Advil (or some
other ibuprophin) and drink lots of water before you
exercise. Being dehydrated tends to re-injure it. Don't
ask me why. It just does. Potassium such as bananas
and potato skins help the electrolytes. Vitamin C and E
in combination helps restore the tissue.
Hope this helps.

Stuttgart, Germany - where it wants to rain,
but just can't quite do it...

Re: Watching me grow up as a Bomber and claiming

Well Karen, I hope I always played well and
represented the "Davis" name in a positive light. It's
funny, but when I was young (prior to Bomber), I was
always asked if Mike ('74)and Steve "Bear" ('72RIP)

kinship with you all too! One time I told the story to
Steve and he gave me a BIG Bear hug and claimed to do
the same. (I'm having tears of joy). Grandma Webb, used
to tell me some good stories about those "other"
Davis', the Davis' previously mentioned and Sheila
Davis Galloway ('71), Keith "Jumbo" & Kent "Wiggy"

I was sorry to hear of the passing of one of the
best friends I ever had while growing up. A long time
ago in a school called Jason Lee. I'm speaking of my
good friend Danny Norwood. We did a lot of "up to no
good " stuff but we also slew a lot of dragons in our
day. Heck, you couldn't find two better Army guys,
loaded down with the latest weaponry right down to our
B-B guns!
To borrow from a movie called "Stand By Me" there's
a line that goes something like this, "I never had me
any better friends than when I was 11 or 12 years old.
Hell, did anyone?"
We got older and lost touch with each other only to
come back into contact years later. It went like that
for a long time. We all have friends like that, I'm
sure. Well, we lost contact with each other again, my
friend, but we'll come back into contact again someday.
I'm sure of it. I think I just saw another dragon, over
there, in that vacant lot.........
Rest in Peace, my Friend.

Re: Mr. Labrecque
I had him for first period of the day and it was a
reading class. The class had to be real quiet and we
read a couple of morbid books and then had to make a
book report of our readings. I will be the first to
admit I slept through half the class--and pretended to
read my book the rest half. The book, however, I did
read and finish but can't remember the name of it. But,
if I remember right it was about a VN Veteran [who was
wounded] and was in the Army hospital. It was almost
too hard to read since my brother was injured in that
war. What I can say though about Mr. Labrecque, he
never pressured to go any further than my memories of
my brother's stories would take me. Maybe he was easy
on me because I was closely related to the war. Bless
his heart. Thank you, Mr. Labrecque.
Later in years I had the pleasure of working with
his daughter, Paulette. Whatever happened to her?
Anybody out there know?

Where can you find over 18000 Bombers online? At
the RHS Scholarship Fund Bomber Directory. You can
search for Alumni by name, state, city and class year.
This can help in finding Alumni for Reunion Planners
and other events.
Visit the Directory and create your account where
YOU control your own data. If you move simply log back
in and change your location. If your email changes,
login and change it. You can also see who has the same
last name as you do in the Bomber Alumni.
Help Alumni keep in touch with each other AND help
us find you for Alumni Reunions. We want to encourage
Bombers to maintain their information so we (Bombers)
don't have to pay other companies for our own data.
If you have questions just email me.

Enjoyed your letter to the Sandstorm, especially
the little story about Steve "Bear" ('72RIP). I don't
think my children knew for quite some time that you
Davis boys weren't related to us. We did enjoy your
grandparents and therefore saw a lot of you growing up.
By the way, Wiggy and Jumbo are now Kent and Keith.
Yes, they too grew up. We will be seeing Kent in Denver
Monday. I will give him your best.

Some of our classmates have moved in the last 5

to us. If you haven't advised us, please do so... we
still have time to send you a letter about our 45th
class reunion. You can send information to
Barbara Isakson Rau, Judy Cross Snowhite, or
Sue Garrison Pritchett. Our email is posted on the
class of '58 website.
Thank You

This is so cool and I want to share this with other
Bombers. It is awesome.
Be sure to turn on your sound. This is incredible.
This is a cool site. Takes about 5 minutes to get
through it. Click below for a fascinating trip to Mars

Want to wish a VERY, VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my
dear friend and classmate, Millie Finch Gregg (’54)
on May 26th, 2003.
Hey, kid, now you are as old as me!!
Re: Small World
Had a very pleasant surprise while in the
Richland’s McDonald’s this morning on the way to my
grandson’s baseball game. This tall, handsome man
walked up to me and asked me when was I a Bomber.
(I was wearing my "Proud to be a Bomber" t-shirt). I
told him ’54 and asked his name. He said "1952, and
it’s Jerry Molnaa". I squealed... "OH, I know your
sister, Jackie (’54) and we used to live down the
street from you on Kimball". We both laughed and
recalled some other families on our street, including
the Sullivans. Oh, I gave him my name, too. Jerry reads
the Sandstorm every day...so come on Jerry, let’s hear
from you...
There are probably a lot of us going around the
Tri-Cities not knowing we are looking at Bomber alumni,
and without my T-shirt I would never have been able to
see an ol’ friend. Made my day!!!!
Jerry will be going to Montana in July to see
Jackie and hopefully get her tuned into the Sandstorm
too. How about it, Jerry?
Best to all you Bombers.

Re: R2K+3
Doesn't look like I am gonna make the weekend
event of the R2K+3 this year. I am in Sierra Vista, AZ
spending time with my husband as he is putting fires
out from the sky. I only got to see him for 10 days
while he was in Hot Springs, AR this year. My oldest
daughter, Kelly Gaines Franklin ('84) married Jason
Nicholson ('91) on March 3rd and I was in Richland for
that, and then had to get back to Phoenix to see my
grandson enter the world on March 7th. It was then that
I went to Hot Springs, AR for a few days. Kelly and
Jason are expecting my first granddaughter the first
part of August. I decided instead of following my
husband from Sierra Vista, AZ to Lakeview, OR to
Billings, MT that I would head that way the end of
this month. After Emily is born, I plan to go to
Billings, MT and visit hubby. Deedee Willox Loiseau ('64)
will be flying down on the 24th to help me make the
drive. Hopefully, we won't get lost.
I know everyone will have a wonderful time and I
will miss out, but next year, (my big 40 year reunion),
I will be there for sure.
Take care, have fun, and stay safe.
-Jean Armstrong Reynolds ('64) ~ Sierra Vista, AZ
Where it is 93° and Jackalopes are all over
Fort Huachuca... I'll be back in Goodyear, AZ
tomorrow where it will be 108°

My sister, Karen Strand Winslow ('70) received her
Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) from the University
of Washington in History, Near and Middle Eastern
Studies, and Religious Studies on June 14. Karen became
Dr. Winslow at 11:30a Saturday, shortly after Rick
Neuheisel was canned. Congratulations Karen! Another
Bomber does good... We are so proud of you --

Re: Dan Norwood ('72RIP)
I would like to pass on my fond memories of Dan. We
have been on the road Pipe fitting all over the states,
and as with Dan Ham ('72), we would run into each other
from time to time. I had a fire and lost all of my
possessions including all of my clothes and boots when
we were working in Usk, WA. I was unable to go to work
because all that I was able to salvage was a pair of
tennis shoes and the shorts that I was wearing when I
got out of the fire. Dan was the first one to my side
giving me a pair of his pants, a denim shirt, and a
pair of boots so that I would be able to go back to
work after being off for a co
