Maybe this comes under the heading of "when it rains it pours".
(But in a good way.)
Usually, I don't see Bombers very often unless I make it to the
Friday lunches at Sterling's or the 2nd Saturday of the Month
lunches at J.D.'s in West Richland. But... as reported in an
earlier post, I saw both Norma MYRICK Nunamaker ('54) and Ralph
MYRICK ('51) at the Volunteer party in the Richland Community
Center last week. The very next evening, Friday, at Pinochle
(again at the Community Center), I re-met Beulah "Boots" FAIN
McCulley ('52). We had not seen each other since graduation! What
a treat! Everyone in the Pinochle group hopes she comes back.
It's fun to reconnect and learn how things have been going with
other Bombers. Boots' husband of 55 years died in October and
she is slowly reaching out to others for socializing and fun.
Also, a Big Thank You to Bill CHAPMAN ('53), who sent information
on alternative cancer treatments. I gave it to daughter Sandra,
whom, as many know, has been battling metastasized colon cancer
for 2-1/2 years. Her doctor tells her there are no proven useful
alternatives to chemo... that diet makes no difference... that
rest is the only thing she can do to improve her bone-marrow
production of platelets, etc., etc. But we are not ones to sit
back and do nothing and we gratefully investigate all
suggestions.
Last night Glenn and I saw AVATAR in 3D. Wow... what a compelling
movie! Although there is violence, there is incredibly beautiful
scenery and the creative genius of Cameron is apparent in the
story and special effects. I recommend paying the extra 3 bucks
to see it in 3D. The few times I felt nauseous, just closing my
eyes for a few seconds took care of it.
Football coming up! Glenn isn't interested, so I will go to
daughter Janet's house to watch!! My dogs love her yard... big,
fenced, and includes 2 more dogs to play with!
Best Bomber regards to each and all,
-Marilyn "Em" DeVINE ('52) ~ in partly sunny Richland.

For those of you who remember her, I have just learned that Mikki
MINNEAR Votendahl ('59wb), passed away after a long battle with
cancer, on Saturday. I grew up on the corner of Wright and Symons
Streets. The Azure family lived across the street from our house,
and the Minnear family lived a few houses west of the Azures on
Symons, until both families moved to Pasco, when I was about a
sophomore.
Mikki was a good friend when we were kids and we have all stayed
in contact throughout the years. Right to the end, Mikki was a
beautiful lady and a wonderful soul. I will choose to remember
her, as I do all of my classmates, as they appeared in our
younger years. She was and will always remain, in my mind, a
vibrant, pretty, young girl, blossoming into a lovely young lady.
I believe that she was Miss Tri-Cities or a runner-up in the
early 1960s, while I was gone in the service.

Re: A quick Thank You...
Hi, My sister Dana and I would like to thank everyone who
contacted me with information and support in regards to our claim
through the EEOICPA. The DOL will be sending us compensation
that won't bring our father back to us but is in some measure
accountability and closure. Thank you very much to Phil B.,
Larry H., Barbara W., Donald S., Carol F., Jodi S., and all the
rest of you. Thank you.
Now, if you or anyone you know has a loved one who suffers from
or died of cancer after working at Hanford, and if you or they
need support with a claim under the EEOICPA, please let me know.
There are thousands of people who have not yet filed a claim but
who are entitled to compensation. I believe the government should
take a more active role in searching for these people, but they
feel limited by privacy issues, so it's up to you help find them
and bring their attention to this claims process under the Energy
Employees' Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA).
A special Thank You goes out to Phil and Larry. Thanks guys! I
toast you as friends and good people. Many thanks! My dad, if he
could, would give you a sharp smack on the back and say to you,
"Thank you boys for helping my kids!"
