Re: Don Sorensen's entry of 1/18
http://alumnisandstorm.com/htm2010/Xtra/Sor/100118-025-030.htm
Picture No. 25 quite possibly in the lobby of the Uptown Theater.
The movie advertised was not all that good, so it could possibly
been at the Village.
Picture No. 26 in front of the 703 Building.
Picture No. 27 probably looking along Thayer Drive, no certain of
direction or exact location.
Picture No. 30 construction of the replacement bridge over the
Yakima. The railroad bridge is to the left and the two Bailey
Bridges are in the center. Just wonder what "highly secret"
installation needed to be blocked out in the upper right corner.
The Rose Bowl perhaps?

So I've finally figured out that the Birthday Girl and I are
related, kinda. Being that since she and my sister, Carolynn ('60)
are Sorority Sisters, then I should be noted somewhere in her
Family pedigree (being from Oklahoma, there are not many forks
except for that provided by the Hoquiam side of the family),
maybe with an asterisk or a dotted line. We've a long and storied
past, all the way from the YMCA Ski Bus to annually welcoming in
the Holiday Season at Ellen & Skip Anderson's. I've matured, in
that I no longer blow balls of dried rubber cement out my nose
to make them bounce across her art project. She and Ellen are
Butch's own Cougs and that tells me she'd lived a good life.
Happy Birthday to Mary Lou WATKINS ('63), may you continue to
put the "fizz" in fuzzy sweaters.
Only 456,480 hours and a wakeup until we suit up in our look
alike Bomber pajamas and wait for the lights to go out.

Re: Alternative Medicine/Treatments
I truly believe that there are many medicines and treatments out
there that are probably better than chemo and the damage it does
to the healthy tissues and organs, but, even though the chemo
made me so sick and I was beginning to think I'd never be
"normal", again, the chemo "killed" the tumor on my neck... it
is GONE and there is NO more cancer there at all! I still have
the tumor at the back of my tongue and will start radiation/chemo
treatments the first part of February and the doctor has said
that this cancer is a very easy one to cure, so I have every
faith and confidence in these treatments and am very grateful
that my insurance has paid for them!
As for nutrition... this is the reason that the radiologist said
that I need to make sure I consume 80 grams of protein a day,
cause the radiation is going to make my throat very sore and I
will not feel like chewing or eating ... I found a whey protein
that has 60 grams per 3 scoops and can be used in either water
or milk... I have tried it in water with ice and put it all in a
blender... gets very "frothy" and the chocolate flavor tastes
just like Nestle's Quick(yum)... I have already started taking
it, since I will start radiation in a week... figure it can't
hurt to have some extra protein in my system to "fight" off the
effects of the radiation and chemo... have been taking it for
breakfast and dinner... have to have two 12-oz glasses a day, to
get the needed protein. he said IF I don't get that protein, then
I risk being hospitalized and on a feeding tube... ain't going
that route!

Re: Tumeric
Please let me know how that helps with your rheumatoid
arthritis... I have osteoarthritis in my right leg, from the hip
down to my ankle, and walk with a cane, and use a scooter for
long distances... will be interesting to see how this helps you.
-Linda REINING ('64) ~ cold and dry Bakersfield, CA
but they claim we are due another storm tomorrow night
that is supposed to bring more rain and snow to the
lower elevations, so we should get snow in Tehachapi
and the grapevine areas. MY kind of weather, so no
complaints from me. *grin*

Re: It just don't get no better
Heaven... I'm in Heaven... yup... you guessed it... gotsta be
Bomber-babes involved... I can't believe my good fortune... OK...
what we got here is an "upperclassperson" (Oh I love the English
language... always a substitute for the word that means more
advanced in age than I) after whom I lusted for about as long as
I can remember... no... not true because I didn't move to Jason
Lee until just before 6th grade which put me in proximity of both
birthday girls... In fact, my first real encounter with the '65er
babe was when I chased her dog, Whitey, across Stevens into her
back yard where just before I launched a huge rock at Whitey I
came in to sight of her entire family eating dinner at the picnic
table behind her house... what a fo-paw that was... so here I am
with two of the babest Bomber-babes with birthdays on January 27,
2010! Now the funny thing about these stories is they always call
to mind the unbelievable love-hate relationship Terry DAVIS ('65)
and I had from the day I hit VanGeisen and Stevens... (started to
tell Maren that she could leave out the caps cuz we've kept our
maiden names... then I realized... only one of us has!)... Now I
had no real clue of the type of relationship we had till Terry
and I were in our 50s and he splained the whole thing to me (tho
my Mommy-dearest... who always liked Terry best did splain it to
me when I was in the 6th or 7th grade, but what do mothers know
at least when you are 13 years old)... One time somebody was
having a party and I took the '65er birthday girl to the party...
Terry threw a hissy telling me I was outa my league... geez... I
didn't ask her to go steady... just took her to a stupid party...
not like I knocked his front teeth out or anything... oops...
forgot... I did knock his front teeth out in 7th grade but it was
an honest accident (how would I know it would come to haunt him
in H-wood years later)... I also never noticed that every time I
took a girl out... zap there was Davis at her front door... In
9th grade as we was goin to the big league the last dance of the
year was for the soon to be raw meat for guys like Jimbeaux ('63)
and the other trollers, Terry and one of my Ex's were chosen to
do the "snowball" dance... after the appropriate amount of
dancing had passed Terry chose someone else and my ex chose me...
Terry did his best to embarrass me on the dance floor... so I
guess life goes on... but I try to guard against stuff like that
these days... (Many years ago on the L.A. freeway, as I pulled
his covers one more time, Terry looked at me and said: "I think I
liked you better when you were dumb"... ...
So now it is birthday time. (using a new paragraph for Earl
BENNETT ('63) As I said, I've adored the one chick since at least
7th grade and been buds with the other since the rock incident...
both of them know I'd walk across hot coals for them (that's kind
of just a saying girls)... or at least walk across the room to
get them a glass of wine or an or derve (I'm so damned swave I
just can't stand myself some times)... did I tell ya I saw Ted
Nugent the other night? Wore my "Nugent for President" t-shirt...
people wanted one but ha ha ha... so I just gotta get this out
rat here rat now... HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mary Lou WATKINS ('63) and
Laura PARKER ('65)... there... I said it... I feel sooooo much
better!

I have been following along with everyone who either has cancer
or has a loved one going through cancer and I just want to share
with all of you how one of our best friends tackled his cancer.
He was diagnosed with prostate cancer and was told by his doctor
to have the surgery and whatever follow-up treatments might
follow. Fortunately he had a very good friend, who is a
Chiropractor who had just gone through the same situation
but rather than have any of the treatments the Doctor’s were
recommending he read a book called "The China Study" and
completely changed his diet and low and behold within 6 months
his cancer was completely gone. Our friend decided to do the same
thing. This is not an easy thing to do as you can eat NO red
meat, NO dairy, NO sugar (sugar feeds cancer) and the NO’s go on
and on and on but guess what – his cancer totally disappeared
also. He has been cancer free for two years now. When he went in
for his testing after 6 months on "The China Study" diet and the
cancer was gone his doctor was absolutely shocked. She said she
knew it could be done through diet but had never known anyone
with enough will power and determination to accomplish it,
therefore never recommended it.
I just wanted to share this experience as it may be helpful to
someone out there.

hmmmmm, lots of medical advice flying around here. My wife
was diagnosed with breast cancer 5 years ago. It was NOT early
detection by any means. Her situation was NOT good. We have no
doubt that her medical team (not "a doctor", about four of them)
is the reason for her even being here. They have our undying
gratitude for her current healthy condiction.
Never once do we remember a single doctor simply making a
decision on a treatment. There were alternatives presented
and discussed with potential ramifications fully understood.
Knowledge and information was shared continuously. NEVER did
we for a minute feel we were not in control of decisions and
the plan.
I feel very strongly that ultimately trust is everything with
doctors and car mechanics. My free advice (worth every penney)
is NEVER, NEVER sit on the sidelines. Be part of the team... and
get your own answers, don't assume ANYONE knows exactly what is
right for your situation.
