Re: Birthdays
Maren, I've been reading the Sandstorm for a little over ten(10)
years. Every January 31st (my birthday) I find that I am not
listed. I'm curious as to your "data base" and why I would not
be in it.
Thank you for being so consistent.
-Sonny DAVIS ('62)

[Sonny, you give me more credit than I deserve. My "data base"
is a list (by date) of birthdays. There are two ways to get your
birthday on my list. 1) Go to the website that is listed in every
Sandstorm just below all the birthdays. Once you get there, you
will find a link to add a birthday; and 2) You can email me and
your birthday will be added to the Bomber calendar (and to my
"data base"). You're added. Happy belated birthday!! -Maren]

Re: China Study
My mother read the "China Study" and gave me the book. I've not
read it yet, but, basically it advocates a vegan diet (no animal
products) and nothing white (rice, sugar, flour, etc.) It has to
do with the cancer cells attaching to the fat in animal protein
and multiplying faster.
Also, when my mother had cancer of a salivary gland a couple of
years ago, she had radiation. The radiation did make her throat
sore and it was difficult to eat some things. She did not sit on
the sidelines. She went to a naturopath (sp?) and a doctor at
the cancer and Wellness Center in Seattle. They both said that
radiation was the best treatment for the kind of cancer that
she had, but also recommended some supplements, including
chywanprash, which she continues to take, to make the effects of
radiation less severe. They also recommended acupuncture, which
she did. Did these things work? Who knows. But it did make her
feel involved in her treatment. And, other that the sore throat,
she had relatively few effects from the radiation. Even the last
few treatments she was able to drive herself to the hospital. The
doctor told her by that time she would be way too fatigued from
the radiation to do that.

Re: New High School?
I received Senator Murray's Legislative Update in the mail to
day, and the photo on the front is captioned "Senator Murray
visits with the first freshmen class of Delta High School in
Richland." So, is there a new high school in Richland? And if
there is, where is it located?

Re: We miss you
I know Mick Hemphill ('66) already sent a post in on Jim Nolan's
('64-RIP) passing. Mick kept me up on Jim's health as it began to
fade. I had hoped that we could do a before ya go kind of party
for him as we have for others, but Mick said that Jim wasn't
ready for the sharing of his health situation with a bunch of
others so that didn't come to pass. Ann ENGEL Schafer ('63) was
kind enough to pass on a wonderful tribute to Jim prepared by
his family. It meant a great deal to me. This week we'll all be
talking about the "Three Stars" on the 3rd ("Gee we're gonna miss
you everybody send their love")... Just want to make sure that
Jim's family knows we feel just as strongly about the loss of Jim
to our Bomber Family. Check out the tribute:

Today I received a letter from the Department of Sociology of
Brigham Young University. It is a follow up of a study conducted
in Washington high schools in February of 1966. I was contacted
in 1980 as part of that study. Has any one else in the class of
'66 been contacted? There are 6,729 former students, state wide,
that they are trying to contact for further follow up. I have
the phone number and the name of the Professor if any one is
interested in contacting him for information about the study.

Many people don't know that we lost 58,000 plus in Nam but
another 200,000 plus have committed suicide since. PTSD (Post-
Traumatic Stress Disorder) is real and hurts many more.
