There is a Garth Brooks song that to me has said what my life has been. It is called The Dance. Looking back on the memory of The dance we shared 'neath the stars above For a moment all the world was right How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye And now I'm glad I didn't know The way it all would end the way it all would go Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain But I'd have had to miss the dance Holding you I held everything For a moment wasn't I a king But if I'd only known how the king would fall Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all And now I'm glad I didn't know The way it all would end the way it all would go Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain But I'd have had to miss the dance Yes my life is better left to chance I could have missed the pain but I'd have had to miss the dance -Tom HUGHES ('56) **************************************************************** **************************************************************** >>From: Jim HAMILTON ('63) This year the majority of the GMC'63 will be celebrating our 70th birthdays. There are a few interlopers, such as Don WINSTON, who will have to wait another year. Freddie would have had his birthday this month. Bobby & Billy would have turned 70 the middle of last month, but passed away the first week of March, 20 years ago. Dick PLOW's birthday I've already acknowledged, he was "Cool". Today would have been the birthday of another really good guy, George "The Wagon Master" BARNETT, who always saw the best in people and if you looked up Loyalty in your Funk & Wagnalls, there will be a picture of Georgie with his lopsided grin.. While some lists are getting shorter, other lists keep getting longer and it's starting to happen at warp speed. Let's not waste today or tomorrow. -jimbeaux -Jim HAMILTON ('63) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ {Proof that I'm with the Gold Medal Class on this one... and so close after my old Spalding buddy, Freddie... 70 in 23 days or so. -Maren] **************************************************************** **************************************************************** >>From: Marie RUPPERT Hartman ('63) Re: Coast Guard With so many entries regarding the Coast Guard I thought I'd toot the horn for my brother-in-law, Jeff HARTMAN ('59). Jeff was accepted into the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT after graduating from Columbia High in 1959. He graduated from the Academy in 1963. Thirty years later he retired with the rank of Captain. Jeff lives in Port Townsend, WA. He gets down to see us several times a year, usually on his way to visit friends and family in other parts of the US. Jeff has written two books (Guarding Alaska and Icebreaking Alaska) about the Coast Guard in Alaska that are available at Amazon. They are interesting and informative reading. -Marie RUPPERT Hartman ('63) ~ in sunny Richland **************************************************************** **************************************************************** >>From: Maren SMYTH ('63 & '64) Re: 100 year old best friends http://shar.es/QTSGP The Steve Harvey Show talks about how two 100-year-old best friends share secrets to lifelong happiness and friendship, and how they view pop culture. This was sent from my friend, Blues Dawg (NAB) -Maren SMYTH ('63 & '64) ~ Gretna, LA **************************************************************** **************************************************************** >>From: David RIVERS ('65) Re: Remembering Today is one of those days when I remember the birthdays of two Bombers who were very near and dear to me. One was my first baby- sitter ever and the other was a great pal with a very good sense of humor... I miss his off color stories in my inbox in the mornings... loved the way he always signed everything... this morning I watched my Bengal cats and laughed at the differences between them... I know both B-day Bombers would enjoy watching them as well... The Alpha is about as fast and stealthy as any cat I've ever seen... almost as fast as Terry DAVIS ('65) when he would swipe goodies out of our hands and have them in his mouth before we knew they were gone... At dinner one evening at Philippe's in L.A., he actually took a huge slice of banana cream pie from me and stuffed the whole thing in his mouth before I could complain... so anyway, the Alpha can catch hummingbirds when they taunt him the way hummingbirds love to taunt cats... keeps me busy saving the little guys... the other who would like to think he is the Alpha sees the biggest dumbest birds in the yards and crouches... then as he begins the attack he yells: "Fill your hands with lead you SOB" like John Wayne in True Grit... he has only managed to catch one dove in his whole career! So HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Lenora HUGHES ('55-RIP) and "By" George BARNETT ('63-RIP) on your special day, March 27, 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -David RIVERS ('65) **************************************************************** **************************************************************** NOT a Memorial - only INFO today: >>Re: Richy LAWRENCE ('80-RIP) from legacy.com online obit: "We will have a local celebration of his life in the Tri-Cities on Saturday, March 28, 2015, as well as a memorial at his place over Memorial Day Weekend, details to follow." **************************************************************** **************************************************************** That's it for today.
