Re: Mastersingers: We need a Center for the Performing Arts

Combined choirs from Mid-Columbia Mastersingers and Spokane Choral
Artists delivered a stunning performance Saturday night. Most sets
were sung in Latin, with program notes explaining the words. Before
intermission it was Antonio Vivaldi's 'Dixit Dominus RV 594.' There
were 10 divisions or sets, including soloists that literally knocked
my socks off.

After intermission came the works of five more composers: John
Rutter's 'Hymn to the Creator of Light,' John Muehleisen's 'Alma
Redemptoris Mater,' Johannes Brahms' 'Fest— und Gedenkspruche, op.
109,' John Tavener's 'Two Hymns to the Mother of God' and Eric
Whitacre's 'Her Sacred Spirit Soars.'

Hearing so many gifted and talented people in one place made my
spirit soar! St. Joseph's Chapel in Kennewick has fine acoustics,
but is a small venue. The Mid-Columbia Basin area needs a Center
for the Performing Arts.

In the Alumni Sandstorm we've been talking about personal choices
that made us the adults we are today. Please add my voice for
community choice. A Center for the Performing Arts will add heart
and soul to the communities that form the Mid-Columbia Basin. What
an even more wonderful place it could soon become to live and raise
a family!

Let's get right to the important things first. That's right, boys
and girls, it Bomber Birthday time! On this date in history the
world saw the birth of a Bomber Babe and a Bomber guy. Fortunately
for me, they were not twins; but they were fellow classmates. From
The Class of '54 let us now honor Patsy MacGREGOR and Glenn OLSON
with the traditional tip of the ol' propeller beanie and the hearty
"Happy Birthday!" cheer. Have a good one, guys.

Re: Twins

Good to hear Pete's reminiscences on sharing birthdays. Also heard
from a mother of twins who solved the cake problem by baking two
separate, but equal, cakes. Sort of like serving ice-cream to my
four boys when they were much younger; dishes of the same size and
weight and a measured amount of ice cream (by weight). There were
still complaints about who got the extra drop now and then.

[solve that problem with two siblings... one cuts
(or scoops) and the other gets to choose. -Maren]

I have been having a problem relating stories of my youth to my
grandchildren. I thought maybe persons with like experiences
could offer an explanation that I could pass on, would be most
appreciated. I have been trying to explain why we have such fond
memories of listening to a ventriloquist on a radio show. I am
referring to Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy. Not just an
occasional guest on a show but a weekly regularly scheduled show of
a person "throwing his voice" and I assume we couldn't see his lips
move? My grandchildren respectful and polite don't actually say
anything to my face but their expressions of concern speaks volumes.
Hopefully they aren't looking for a "home" as I may have difficulty
explaining this at a competency hearing. Anxiously awaiting any
reply.

Re: Richland musician dies unexpectedly. ~ 3/28/15 Tri-City Herald

"All Thomas Gnoza ever wanted to do was play music and
sing. His mother, Mary Lou [DeMEYER Gnoza ('59)], could
never convince him to come up with a backup plan. 'He'd
say, Mom, this is my career,' she said.' And it was a
fruitful one, Gnoza, 49, of Richland, a singer,
songwriter and instrumentalist became a luminary of the
Tri-City music community—warming fans with his powerful
songs and admirers for his willingness to encourage and
support younger musicians. The music community is
reeling from his death, Gnoza died unexpectedly in his
      sleep Wednesday night."

Re: Gonzaga vs Duke NCAA game

Unfortunately Gonzaga lost to Duke Sunday in Houston by a score of
66 – 52.
