It is the celebration of the birthday of two (count 'em 2) Bomber Babes, both of whom I went to school with. One I knew and the other maybe. But no long tales of what may or may not have been back then. The one I knew was through association with her cousin, Ray WEYERTS ('53-RIP). Can't remember if I saw the other on the bus from North Richland. It somehow worked out that we graduated together the same year (what are the odds?) So, a double tip of the ol' propeller beanie and a "Happy Birthday!" cheer for (in alphabetical order) DiAnn SCHUSTER and Virginia "Ginny" WEYERTS ('54). -Bob Carlson, aka Mike CLOWES ('54) ~ Mount Angel, OR where it sorta rained here, but more to the north. *************************************************************** *************************************************************** >>From: Larry MATTINGLY ('60) Re: It won't happen here We have a full monitored alarm system and several cameras in the house and my shop building out back. Along with that we have several cameras that we can access from cell phones and even move them to see around the room. And as soon as Jackie gets them finished in programing they will send us a picture of anyone crossing in front of the camera. Along with that we live on a quiet cul-de-sac where we own the street and all is private and I have lights on and more motion activated lights. Problems are few and far between in the neighborhood. But we are away from home a lot. And, within a mile of us they are having at least 1 home invasions a week. I was up late last night, Jackie is in Alaska prepping for a display and I was typing another customized safety training program and kept hearing noises. Finally I opened the gun safe and chambered a round in my SigPro 357. I went back to typing and a big crash happened in the master bedroom. An invader had knocked the planter and other items off the window sill and was boosting himself up to crawl in the window. Then he noticed my 357 was pointed between his eyes at about 10 feet away. Expletive deleted and he dropped out of sight. I had 911 on the phone and a K9 and 2 other cars were in front of my house in a couple of minutes. His trail was confusing the dog as the trail led all over my 1/2 acre. He really cased the place. They finally tracked him over a fence and into a housing development where they lost him at the edge of a street. They think his car was there on an empty lot. They did get a description of the car but not the license. The house was hot when I came home so I had opened the window in the bathroom. The planter and 2 heavy knick-knacks were on the sill just for that purpose. The officer complimented me for not firing unless he is inside the house, where the "castle" rule would apply. Did not sleep very well the rest of the night. -J. Larry MATTINGLY ('60) ~ Will not make the Club 40 Party as we have too many things on the calendar. *************************************************************** *************************************************************** >>From: Barbra Williamson, aka Jeanie WALSH ('63) Re: Trading places Are there any Bombers out there interested in trading houses for about two or three weeks? I live in Southern California about 50 minutes from Santa Barbara, 60 minutes from Disneyland 50 minutes from downtown Los Angeles about two hours from San Diego and lots of other fun places. I am looking at places in Oregon or Washington. If anyone is interested, just give me a shout-out and we can discuss details in an e-mail. Sunset Sportswear 292 Wellsian Way Richland WA 99352 Heading South from Lee to the Bypass, this is across the street from (but before) you get to the Fred Meyer. There is a row of "industrial" cinder block buildings on the east side of the street. The signage is small. They have Bomber hats, jackets, T-shirts etc. If you are a WSU Cougar fan (I'm not – Go Dawgs!) they are loaded with Cougar paraphernalia. Have fun...
