Ah, the days dwindle down, etc. At least as far as August,
which leads to this entry. We remember and celebrating the
birthday of an older Bomber Babe on my acquaintance. Think I
first saw her on a school bus, but I may be mistook; I have
been before. Since then, I have met her again at Club 40 and
way back to R2K. It is always nice to see her.

Without getting too overboard about this, it is time to tip
the ol' propeller beanie and wish a very "Happy Birthday!"
to Helen BARTLETT ('52).

You young ladies of the Class of '55 need to remember the
luncheon at Sterling's coming up tomorrow (8/11). See how good
my memory is, I don wen and forgit the day. But be there any
way.

temps have cooled a bit, and rain holds in the forecast
for the next few days at 20 percent.

Re: Linda REINING ('64) hip replacements

My first was at age 58 in 2002. After 6 months I thought I was
completely healed/recovered, thought so again at 7 months, and
that continued for two years - I had no idea how much overall
physical capability I had lost in the process of the hip
deteriorating, stopping jogging, etc. The therapists kept
telling me to back off, I was trying to recover everything
overnight, which of course was not smart, so I started paying
attention to them and improved steadily but slowly. The second
hip was done in 2010, and I did the therapies I remembered from
the first one for three months prior; I recovered a lot faster
that time, but full healing and recovery still took over a year.
I became the de facto hip replacement counselor at work, and
several colleagues benefitted from what I had learned about not
letting myself go so completely. In the ten years between 2004
and 2014 I slowly dropped 28 pounds and now am close to my
weight in my 20s and 30s, though obviously nowhere near that
level of overall strength and conditioning (shouldn't expect it
at 70, I guess). However, I still do a lot of walking, property
maintenance (garden plowing, chainsaw work, etc.) and some
bicycle riding. Hip surgery has evolved to nearly a routine
event now, and hospital stays have shortened significantly.
Sounds like you're having a fairly successful process, just hang
in there and keep listening to the therapists, they really do
know what they're doing. God be with you for the next one.

Regards, Elm Street neighbor Widgie - from unusually
moderate August in central Virginia, but still probably
double the humidity in Richland; I tell people here
about growing up with sagebrush, tumbleweeds, and 40%
being considered muggy -most don't realize eastern
Washington has such an arid region, then I tell them
about the Chamber of Commerce slogans back then:
"Sunshine Capital of the Pacific Northwest" and "In the
      Heart of the Banana Belt."
