Re: Carl J. ERICKSON ('33)

Hello! My name is Alexis Stockwell and I am a student at
Washington State University in Pullman. I am taking a military
history class and I am researching Carl J. Erickson ('33) for a
memorial assignment and was wondering if there is anything that
you can tell me about him? Or if there is anyone you know who
might know a little bit more about his life. Carl graduated in
1933 from Richland High School which were the Colts at that

Thank you so much for your time!

Re: Hal SMITH ('56-RIP)

I was saddened to learn of the passing of my class mate, Hal.
He and I grew up in the south end.

In the first year of little league in Richland, Hal and I were
on a team coached by his dad, Hal senior.

A few years ago I read an article about Mickey Mantle. I
remembered that Hal senior had told the team that he had
coached Mickey as an eighth grader back in Oklahoma. I wasn't
sure my memories were correct so I got Hal's e-mail from the
Sandstorm and wrote him to ask if my memory was correct. Hal
was surprised that I remembered something from so long ago but
yes his dad had coached Mickey.

Hal then told that once when he was in New York he called
Mickey or his agent, identified himself as Hal Smith, and asked
to see him. Mickey thought it was Hal senior calling and
readily agreed to meet. Hal said that Mickey was very gracious
and that they had a nice time together.

Hal and I exchanged e-mails bringing ourselves up to date on
our lives and reliving old memories.

Re: Income Tax Simplification

Proposed new tax simplification for next year.

     1. How much money did you make last year?
     2. How much was withheld?
     3. Subtract line 2 from line 1.
     4. Send it in.

That's it for today. Please send more.
