It is the 4th of July; a birthday date for America that is in
some dispute. Historians can't quite agree on the actual date
that the Colonies declared their independence from the mother
country. The 4th is mostly accepted as that is the date on
which the Declaration was printed. Other dates have been
bandied about as to when it was agreed upon and when it was
signed by all, Trumbull's painting not withstanding.

Be that as it may, in looking over the "official" Bomber
calendar, there are three Bombers celebrating birthdays today.

Oh, well, a tip of the ol' propeller beanie and a "Happy
Birthday!" to the USofA and all those, on the calendar or
not, celebrating their birthdays today.

Re: Wheat fields

Janice and I are driving from our home in Colorado to see our
granddaughters in Redmond. Since we take this trip several
times a year, we try to change up the route a bit each time we
drive it. This time we decided to take an extra day and visit
the Snake River wine region to see what they had to offer. The
answer? Not so much.

Then we took the beautiful and varied Highway 95 up the
western edge of Idaho from Caldwell to Lewiston, where we
discovered Lindsay Creek Vineyards in the middle of a wheat
field. The wines were quite good, but then we learned that the
grapes came from Walla Walla. The winery is so new that its
own grapes aren't yet mature enough to produce much.

The drive from there through Pullman and the eastern edge of
Washington's lush fields of wheat and canola was a visual
treat. The area is even more beautiful than I remember it
being when I last took it with my parents over a half century

Re: Bob Cravens ~ WB Class of '61? or '60? or '62?

Greetings Fellow Alumni Sandstorm Readers! Recently, after
being diagnosed as having Myasthenia Gravis, I moved into
Brookdale-Richland, an assisted living apartment facility,
located at 1629 GWWay. One of the residents is Bob Cravens who
turned 75 on July 1st. Bob & I spend a lot of time talking to
one another. Bob has a remarkable memory pertaining to music &
movie trivia. Also, he loves to play his harmonicas. In his
apartment, he has a reproduction of a vintage 1950's-1960's
Schwinn bicycle that he rode around town on. In elementary
school, he was in the "Special Education" department at
Jefferson, Sacajawea, and Lewis & Clark; and, in junior high
attended Chief Jo. His family lived on Symons St. and, I think
he said, near Marshall Ave. He worked at Price Chopper; and,
as a janitor at the Federal Building.

I mention all this because Bob stated that he had never
attended a high school class reunion since he never graduated;
but, he would love to go to one to see the people he went to
school with through 10th grade at RHS. He thinks he would have
graduated in 1960 or 1961. Do any of you know what class he
"Would Be" associated as graduating with? Regardless and
additionally, I have suggested he register to attend a "Club
40" reunion.

Thank you; and, "Go Bombers"!
