Re: Gene CONLEY ('48-RIP)

I am a couple days late in my entry for CONLEY. Gene was 4
years ahead of me in school... that is a lot of difference at
that young age so we were just casual friends, I followed his
every move. I lived on Swift Blvd, just 2 houses north of
Thayer. Gene lived on Thayer, less than a block away and just
around the corner from Col-Hi. I could see his house directly
ahead. One evening just about dinner time, I heard a terrible
crash. Everyone can remember the large busses that transported
workers from town out to the areas where they worked. A bus
driver had died at he wheel and crashed into an "A" house like
the ones Gene and I lived in. I ran as fast as I could --and
could see Gene running also -- to the accident. All of sudden
Gene disappeared, as I got to him he was getting up. He had
run into a clothes line that had flattened him since he was so
tall. We got to the accident, before anyone to find the driver
dead and the people who lived there OK. No other injuries, the
bus was returning empty.

Gene's wife Kathryn R. Conley wrote a book "One of a Kind"
about Gene's life. It was published in 2004 by Advantage Books
(www.advbooks.com [I looked and couldn't find it... Amazon
doesn't sell it but they give you "third party sellers"]). My
wife contacted her a few years later and got Gene to sign and
send me copy. A great book for us Conley fans, thanks Kathryn.

Re: Japanese fireworks

To: Larry MATTINGLY ('60)

Did you get a chance to see this display by the Japanese?

https://www.facebook.com/ravejungle/videos/1017898394925878/

I have rarely had a chance to watch fireworks in the last 15
years, and I do miss them. However a friend posted this one on
Facebook and I immediately thought of you and all the work you
have done in this area. Keep safe and best wishes to you for
the displays that you have worked so hard to share.
