To: Marc LEACH ('63)

Marc,

I was on that trip and remember a lot of fun happenings and
some trouble times. I remember when we accidentally got in to
the fishing fleet's net area and had to have someone come out
and guide the boat safely through the maze of nets. We had fun
on "Pig Island" exploring the old gun placements. It was a
great trip that I will remember the rest of my life.

Have a great day.

I, too am saddened to learn of all the fires burning in the
beautiful Northwest. (it hasn't made the news back here in
the midwest when I've been watching.) I thought of you, Donni
CLARK Dunphy ('63), and all who live in the beautiful Columbia
Gorge. It is such a shame and such a loss of a most beautiful
spot; (temporarily Thank Heaven.)

I had such a fun time driving slowly along the gorge sharing
it's beauty with a couple of friends, one from Japan, back in
2007.

As happened in Yellowstone following the horrid fires they had
years ago, the forest will rebuild itself, sadly not overnight
of course.

My prayers for the families living there and those brave souls
fighting this horrid fire.

Re: '67 in '17 50 Year Reunion on Einan's site

In answer to Betti AVANT's ('69) post in the September 7
Sandstorm, the class of '67 had its memorial DVD for the
reunion made by the staff at Einan's. Perhaps that is why
the details regarding the reunion are showing on the Einan's
website.

Reading a comment made about the horrible fires running wild
all over the west I saw a statement here that bothered me, a
lot. And I see and hear similar generalizations all the time.
We, the enlightened generation of The Beatles and Woodstock,
etc. apparently have no trouble painting entire generations
with a single brush.

Referring to the cause of the horrible fire around the gorge
in Oregon and the fact that is was started by a young person's
carelessness (fireworks I believe) the following was
submitted:

"It makes me sick to think that young kids who have no
regard for our land and its laws did this." I am sure
this was NOT intended to broadly trash "young kids" but
this crime was committed by a single person, or very
   small group of people.

Sorry for this rant but I know MANY "young people" and
have met none that I would identify as having no regard
for our land. If this had been done by a 65 year old I
doubt any of us would claim these "older people...".

OK, that is it for now... I have grown a little grumpy over
the years. Usually I would smile and think back to the early
'60s , remembering that many of our parents were sure that the
Beatles' long hair was a sure sign of the coming apocalypse!
Our entire generation was going down the tube for our love of
"I Want To Hold Your Hand", etc.
